Is there a set time for HHG to be delivered once they have packed your stuff at point A and are moving it to point B?

Or is it dependent on whether or not you are there when the movers get to point B?

We have our new locale already set-up and just got PCS orders and I am trying to figure out how the delivery aspect of the process works.

Once you've done your Gov't move counseling session at your local travel office you will get a letter that has your:

1."Pack date"
2."Pick up date"
3."Est arrival date"

#1 is the day they will start packing your stuff.
#2 is the day they start driving. It could be the same day as #1 or could be 2-3 days later depending on how much stuff you have and how long it takes them to pack and load the truck.
#3 is a meet or beat date, from what I was told. That is supposed to be the latest your stuff will arrive but it could arrive earlier.

To give you an idea, I am moving halfway across the country - my est arrival date is 15 days after my pick up date and 2 days after my report date for internship. I'm hoping my stuff will get there a lot earlier, but am also prepared to to air mattress, microwave, and paper plates for over a week.

Two of my classmates asked me this other question:

Is there any fee due for the shipping of household goods part of this?

It does not mention anything about that in the emails or on the smartmove web, and no one has mentioned anything about payment for this service. I just thought the DIY move was where you upfronted the money. I just assumed the answer was "no", but wanted to make sure.

Thanks.

Delivery of HHG shipments depends on distance from point A to point B, as delicatefade mentioned. Once your stuff is picked up, the company has a set number of days to deliver your goods to the AREA you are moving to. MAKE SURE you contact your local HHG office when you are in your new locale, because that's who your shipping company is going to call when the driver is in the area. Then the HHG office contacts you to set up delivery. If you don't make contact with the HHG office, and your driver is in your locale, your stuff will go into storage, thus delaying you getting your stuff, and you'll have to wait more days to get it out of storage and delivered to your new place.

There's no cost to the member for HHG shipments -- it's all done by the govt/Smartweb. The DIY move = "do it yourself" -- as in, you move your own stuff and the govt gives some reimbursement to you.

Good luck!

I am going from Wisconsin to DC.
840 miles (or so google maps says)

If they leave thursday and get there saturday...what happens?
There is no-one at the transportation office on the weekend from what I can tell. Does this mean Delivery on Monday?

I am just trying to figure out when it would be best to have them pack up so that we are there when they get to our new place.

You can get delivery on a weekend, but the company that was contracted will charge you a ton of money to make this happen. So Monday is your best bet.

There doesn't have to be anyone at the transp office to get a delivery since deliveries are made by a private company paid for by the military, but you do need to schedule with the transpo office well in advance of any delivery. During peak moving season...(late spring through summer), the moving companies may require extra time to coordinate your move and delivery of your household goods.

Yours will not likely be the only shipment in a given truck. It is more likely that the truck will have several deliveries to make along the way, so that a "direct" delivery is uncommon (at least in my experience w/ multiple moves).

Depends on how much stuff you have. 😀
