I have an interview scheduled in three weeks at Virginia Commonweath University. The problem is that I feel hesitant about calling one of the hosts to ask for housing for the evening. Has anyone ever had any experience using the strange host system of VCU (where the applicant initiates contact with a host)? Or has anyone found a cheap hotel near the school that's worth recommending?

The Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel is easy walking distance and has a preferred rate for VCU (ask for it when you call). For me, it was $85 but I stayed over a Sunday night, I have heard it is as low as $74 if you stay during the week. That's definitely the best hotel to stay in (there was a thread about this a few weeks ago & all the respondents agreed about that). The rooms are really nice, they have king sized beds & a seperate living room.

As for the host, I think most people don't choose to stay with a host. In my interview group of around 12 or so I think 1 person did. But they had a pleasant experience, so if you want to give it a try I'm sure it would be fine.

Good luck! VCU is a great school, and my interviewer was awesome 👍

I will be staying at the Commonwealth Park Suites tomm night. I hear its pretty good. PM if you want more info.

If you are looking for the old thread that supercluster was speaking of...do a search using my name...i think it was called "where to stay in VCU"

Stay with one of the hosts, THEY ARE AWESOME!!! I met so many nice kids, went to class with them the next day, and really got an idea of what being a student at MCV was like. Honestly, the class is so close and I met about 20 second year students that I can't imagine you would get a bad apple in the lot. Plus it is FREE.
big plus there.
