Hi guys,

I am planning to attend UMDNJ - NJDS and I need answers to some questions that I have about the school. First of all, my question is about housing at NJDS. I know that they have an on-campus housing building for the students, but what is the procedure for getting an apartment there and do you get to pick your own roommate or do they provide you one? Do a lot of students live there or do they find it expensive and live at other places and if so then what other places? I heard about Society Hill also... how is that like?

When do classes start and orientation? What about the parking at the dental school or at the dorm building that they have there. How is the grading system at the school and are a lot of students happy to be there?

Thank you very much for the information and time. I really appreciate the information.

🙂

i'll try to answer all of this......
you have to fill out some forms and get meningitis vaccine to apply for housing, check the website.
i think you can request a roommate, but it's not guaranteed, they'll probably provide it (dent, med, or grad student).
a good amount of students live on campus b/c its like 100 yards from the school. but it's pretty expensive, i think more students live in the surrounding towns like hoboken, montclair, etc. i'm in society hill, a community across the street from campus. it's mostly umdnj students and young professionals.
orientation is 8/17, classes start 8/24.
parking is not bad, like $150 for the year (i need to re-check that), there are a few garages on campus and at the dorm.
grading is letters, normal and +'s, no -'s. students are very happy to be there, it's an awesome school, very good clinically. however, newark isn't the greatest city, like how most d-schools are.
if you have more questions, just PM me.

I recently toured University Centre. Seems like a pretty good deal with the current parking special. Any thoughts?

university centre is also nice, dorm/apts similar to 180 west market on campus. however, it is also a bit on the pricey side for what you get. that building also houses rutgers and njit students, mostly undergrad i think. still, a number of dental students live there, its a bit of a walk, few blocks. at night, i suggest walking with a friend, or trying bus, light rail, or the car with parking deal that you mentioned.

I currently live at Univ. Centre and decided to live here after touring 180 west market street. It's a tad pricier but a lot safer and has a fully equip gym. NOt that many undergrads lived here as i thought, good amount of grad students on one side of the bldg. You can let them know which side of the bldg you'd rather be on. There are some good deals for UMDNJ students right now... they didn't have that before. I think you get 500 bucks just for leasing and parking is 40 bucks a month. Pretty good deal.

try bloomfield but I lived in the ironbound section and loved it. Newly built house with a ten-fifteen minute walk to penn station

heyy UMDNJers!!!!!!,
i have an interview at umdnj on fri(12/4) and i wanted to get a student opinion, one who attends the school---why do you love umdnj? why did you pick this specific dental school?

also, do they have a wide range of patients and cases that students see? hows the research opportunities for students. . . .?
i was looking for things on umdnj's website for why they are an amazing school and what i can say when they ask me "why UMDNJ" but there are no sources or anything on their wedbsite!!! PLEASEEE help me out. . .

thanks,
