Where do you UNLV students live and recommend living?

I am looking to purchase a townhouse while in dental school and I am looking for a nice area that is convenient also. Your input will help me make a decision on which school to attend, thank you. 🙂

I bought a townhome in Vegas while in school. I lived in Henderson and liked that side of town. Traffic wasn't bad. My commute was between 15-20 min (13 miles on the freeway) Most other students lived on the west side or in North Las Vegas. North Las Vegas has a lot of growth and younger people, so was probably the most popular area.

Most people live on the West side- Summerlin or Northwest- north las vegas(the new north las vegas). Both areas are nice. However henderson has a little more "at home" feeling. Anyways all are good and can be from 10-30 minute commute. Now is a great buyers market too.

When I was at UNLV undergrad I lived near the dental school for 2 years, so I can give you some advice:

10-30 min to henderson is not realistic, it's probably 20min if theres no traffic. The traffic in vegas is pretty before 9 and from 3-6, I personally would want nothing to do with that commute. My advice would be to stay on the west side of town, summerlin or the lakes bieng ideal for combination of location and commute. Neigborhood around Dschool is old, I would not consider buying there.

With that said, rentals are dirt cheap in Vegas, and a decent townhouse in aforementioned neighborhoods is probably $250k. I would probably rent for another couple years personally.
