Hi there,

I am in the process of finishing up my first undergrad and will likely have to complete a couple additional years of undergrad to pull my cGPA up. The program I'm looking at is a 3 year degree.

1) Do any schools require you to finish your second degree before starting? I know some schools in Canada (University of Western Ontario) requires you to do this.

2) Do osteopathic schools look at the "entire package" or if I start a second degree will they only use that average. Again, I know some schools that do this...

Your help would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

I don't think any schools require you to finish a second degree. As long as you get one. They won't have any idea if you don't mention it. And because med schools don't really care how many bachelors degrees you have, don't mention it. It is actually quite common for people to "start" second degrees, meaning enter a university as a degree seeking student just so they have the possibility of getting into the classes they need. I don't understand your second question. All schools DO and MD will look at the entire package, but will also look at every class that you have every taken and they will look at your GPA from all of those classes as well.

I actually earned a second undergraduate degree in Bio, and the admissions committee seemed to look positively on it. Of course, they asked me to explain my reason for changing careers, but I still got accepted.

Like the above poster said, they will count all your grades from all your undergraduate institutions, although for DO schools you can do grade replacement if you retake a class and get a better grade.

Okay fantastic! Thank you both 🙂
