I may have to retake physics because I'll get a C- in it, unless I get the right score on the final. If I have to retake physics this summer, I'll get an A in it and I can update my AADSAS by the first week of August. I'll also be taking physics 2, so that'll be included as well.

How terrible does it look to be retaking a class DURING the application process?

It wouldn't look bad if you're retaking a class during application process; it would hardly affect their evaluation of you. However, until you actually notify the schools of the A that you might or might not receive, you're gonna have to own up to your C-. That is the extent of how much it is going to "hurt" you.

So will schools basically put my application on hold till I update my AADSAS? If I put that I'm retaking physics over the summer

No, they will evaluate your application as is if they get to it. One course is not going to hold them back on evaluating your application.

but what if it significantly effects my GPA? since physics is a 5 credit hour class.

Your option is to not submit it until you get your grade (not recommended), or you directly call each school and tell them that you want your application to be put on hold. More often than not, they are not going to give you the benefit of the doubt. They have to review thousands of applications; they will likely evaluate your application at face-value. It takes a considerably amount of them for them to look at your course history and evaluate your courses individually.

If I tell them I want my application to be put on hold till the first week of August (when I get the physics grade back), will that lower my chances of admission since I will be thrown in late batches?

btw I plan on submitting my app the first week of june, and having my DAT in the first week of July

I don't know about batches; all that information indicate is when AADSAS delivers your application to the schools.

But yes, if you ask to have your application to be put on hold, it will hurt your chances. Interview invites can be sent out as early as July. However, interview invites can be sent anytime till april and even may. But the bulk of it will be July-September

My personally opinion is that this C- will not impact your application as much as you think it will.
