Hey,
I have completed 2 years of my residency in US,but couldn't complete the 3rd year and now I am not getting any program in US where I can complete my training. So, I was thinking about going to Australia and take FRACP exam.I was wondering if somebody who has completed his training in Aus can guide me properly.I need to ask about
1.How can I take the FRACP exam and is it easy to get the residency spots or not and what is the status of jobs over there.
2.How is life in Australia especially with family because I have 2 kids.
Please,if somebody is living there or has completed training from there, let me know cuz I need proper guidance.

A little bit more info would be useful.

I thought if you got into a training program you were essentially in it for the entire duration of the program, with the exeption of the transitional year programs?

How could you not be able to finish your 3rd year in the US?

Any information about questions bank/practice questions and books/content of FRACP exam.

Your help is appreciated.

The written part of the FRACP is multiple choice questions - you can try the FRACP website and see if they've posted any past exam questions (you may have to login though)

As for the the practical part it's long and short cases. If you've been doing Internal medicine in America I think you will have a very hard time passing this component as they can literally ask you anything from all spectrums of internal medicine and there is a very strong emphasis on clinical skills.

Why is that so ? Is the theoretical education of residents in Australia better ? I've seen some FRACP MC exams...pretty funky stuff, not easy at all !

The vast majority of IMGs in Australia have completed their training in their home countries. It will be nearly impossible to come over to Australia to continue your training unless you have Australian citizenship or a permanent visa already. The most common countries for IMGs in Australia seem to be South Africa, the UK, and Ireland.

I don't know if the theoretical education of Australian residents is better, but I can say with some certainty that the expectations are much higher.

Many of the American trained doctors I've worked with in the past have commented that the practical examination skills required in the Australian FRACP exams were much more difficult then what they were used to back home. Perhaps the reason is that they have much more ready access to MRIs and CTs then here, or maybe it's just not emphasized in their cirriculum.

Actually the most common country for IMGs is South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka). You do not require a Citizenship or PR to come to do your training here - only a 457 visa. However you better hurry as in the next few years these jobs will be disappearing as there are more local students to fill the vacancies.
