How delayed is my app if I won't have MCAT scores till September?

The CIB said that schools would accept 2013 MCAT scores so I thought I was fine, turns out when I called all the schools, most of them said they won't accept anything before 2014.

I've already booked the MCAT for Aug 20th and begrudgingly purchased new study material (theres $450 I won't ever see again).

I was hoping to get the benefit of having a cGPA of 3.54, sGPA of 3.51, 32 MCAT score and having already had my transcripts verified last week, now it looks like I need to wait till mid September to get the MCAT scores.

How significantly are my chances at an acceptance reduced? Let's say I get a 510 on the MCAT, where would that leave me based on my likelihood of getting in. I applied to 17 schools.

If you can, please put a percentage on it.

Get a 510 and Sept is fine for DO. Make a 495 and there is a problem.

So right now you have an awesome chance of getting in somewhere IF the rest of your application is solid and you do even just good on the MCAT. Not sure anyone can give you a real percent chance without a score, but you really should be worrying about studying vs not getting in and you'll be fine. Tons of open seats in Sept and many schools will still see the 32 and that will factor in. So let's see, I think I will say 90%.

When you say that the OP would have a problem with a 495, would there be an issue simply because that is considered to be a low score, or because of other factors as well? Just curious

Below 500 doesn't make automatic cutoffs for many schools. It also is just not competitive when well over 50% of everyone else scored higher. Plus you're applying on the later side so schools have already gotten 5000 really great applications. Consider it this way, a school has 10000 applications and 150-250 slots, why pick someone weaker when they just don't have to. 60% overall don't make it in, so you want to be in the top 40% as much as possible.

There is about an average of 5,000 applicants per school, give or take a few thousand depending on the school itself. However, the AACOMAS application windows is much bigger than the AAMCAS application window. You could submit your scores in December and as long as you are around 503+ with good LORs you would fit in with the majority of applicants. Obviously, the earlier better, but you have good stats and if you score a "32" aka 510+ on your MCAT, then I could comfortably say you have a great shot SOMEWHERE.

I did the exact same thing last year and I think it only hurt me at kcu and rvu. But I only got a 504 and you'll probably get much higher. As long as you're okay with interviewing late in the cycle then it'll be okay. Just submit your primaries the day you get your score and send your score to aacomas the same day as well. By the time they review whether to send you a secondary or not, you're MCAT will be there. Don't send a secondary without making sure your MCAT was received by aacomas.

Submitted 9/22 last year and I got a couple interviews in two weeks. It usually took anywhere from 5-10 days to get a secondary.

About 4-6 weeks from submitting most secondaries I got an interview invite.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm kind of confused about the application cycle. Most health professions programs don't start accepting applications until around August, and they conduct interviews during the fall/winter and let applicants know their decisions in the spring. Do DO schools basically accept applications on a year-round basis?

See the dates of AACOM site, as the process slowly winds down in the spring. It varies a bit by schools to their last date. Often until april(ish), but seats fill fast and schools become much more picky as time goes and after the new year it becomes extremely challenging with all of the MD applicants who have high scores but no acceptances coming in for a DO seat. Then in the end it's wait list picking time, sometimes into July/early August.
