how detailed do you have to be in your essays?

just wondering
becuz i wrote that my mom was a doctor couple years back and that's how i got to check out the hospital so often

my proofreader told me to cut those detail, what do u think?

most essays actually
like, "why do you want to become a doctor"

i am not sure about this
i think mentioning that my mom worked a doctor back in home country can actually justify my influences
but several proofreaders told me to simply write, "she worked in a hospital" because adcom doesn't want to see so much detail
