On the information provided on the TMDSAS website, there was 1 applicant admitted with between a 2.6 and 2.75 GPA in 2009. There were also 10 individuals admitted with between a 2.76-3.00. How does this happen?

Incredibly high MCAT score, awesome EC's, awesome PS, URM, disadvantaged... there are a lot of factors other than GPA that go into med school apps - I'm sure you know this.

Because life isn't all about stat's. They're only 55% of the job.

Probably URM's with huge upward trends, good MCAT scores, and extraordinary ECs/personal circumstances.

His dad was a generou$ donor and tru$tee. 😀

Think George W. Bush.

I can see people getting in with GPAs that low if they were the result of some extenuating circumstance that caused them to fail an entire semester/year or something like that.

There is more to an app than just the GPA.

I am one of those people who got in with a GPA well below 3.0. I am not a URM. I am not disadvantaged.

Oh all those people with the great stats going into medical school- many of them ended up at the bottom half of the class... and I ended up in residency at Hopkins. That's how it happens.

This looks shopped.

The obsession with 4.0 GPAs and 32+ MCATs on this site is astounding

I certainly do not have an obsession with 4.0's. I'm rockin a 2.6 right now. SMP bound most likely. I look to these stats with hope. But I am disadvantaged, so I have that going for me.

Probably a circumstance so compelling, motivating and tragic that it would be a crime not to accept them.

or... all the other reasons mentioned above.

It is advantageous to be either black or hispanic..

:bullcrap:

Jk, i would have to say other extenuating circumstances probably contribute like URM and or non trads with awesome MCATS, LORS, and EC's

Agreed. Count myself among those with low UG GPAs (~2.8, once AMCAS had finished ravaging it) who turned things around and eventually got into medical school. Not URM, not disadvantaged; just willing to work my ***** off to make up for my past mistakes.

I know a guy with a 3.0 GPA and 30 MCAT that got into UTSA. A girl with a 3.4/24MCAT in UTMB, guy with a 3.7/22 at UTMB, girl with a 3.8/23 UTMB, guy with a 3.9/25 at UTH, and multiple people with 25 MCATs at TCOM.

They are all in the JAMP program. Go figure. (I used to be in JAMP, all these people I know personally).

I know of at least 3 people in my class who had 2.7-2.9's. All 3 were white males who are not disadvantaged. They all had to do a graudate program to get in and all are going to competitive residencies after proving themselves in medical school

For the most part, med school AdComs know who is going to succeed and can cut through those with < 3.0s who are going to fail.
