How difficult is it to get a gen-surgery residency? What about for FMG or DO's?
How difficult is it to get a gen-surgery residency?

general surgery residencies cover a wide range. there are top academic programs that are just as difficult to get into as optho or ENT and then there are lower tier programs which are easier to get into.
It is a field that is a valid option for candidates of walks of life. Furthermore, for DO's, there are DO only residency options as well as MD residency options.
FMG's who are interested have better chances with the lower tier programs, unless they are outstanding candidates.
