My school has the unique option of allowing students to GPNC (grade/pass/no credit) one class a semester.
edit: I can't post links but basically the GPNC system works as you set a Grade threshold in which you want to take the letter grade (i.e. I want a C in my Math class to complete my major requirements). If I get a C or Higher, I earn that grade. If I get lower than a C but Higher than a D then I get a "Pass", a F gets you "No credit".
How would this be viewed by Adcoms?
I already have 1 withdrawal that I took due to taking too many courses in a major related course I am taking (I'm a applied math major). And then a "Pass" in last semester Biochemistry Course where I scored lower than my threshold grade of B- ( I plan on retaking this course). And now I am looking at a potential F which will be a No-Credit on my transcript in a Math class I am taking due to personal issues.
My GPA right now is a little low, with a 3.32 Cumulative 3.5 science (under the AACOMAS which excludes math courses). But Ive shown a general upward trend in my grades, and I usually do A-B range in almost all my science prereqs (sometimes at the expense of my math courses). This semester Im going to be pulling 3 As and a B+ out of the 5 courses Im taking with As in the 2 science courses I took this semester. I also have a high probability of continuing this trend because my senior year consists more of taking elective courses I am interested in.
