Are we just suppose to write a letter saying "please hold my acceptance." I guess I'm just not clear on why this is required, so I don't understand what the letter should contain.

I think most schools send you a form to send back with a deposit, and you check that you want them to hold your acceptance. This is required so they know you are still interested in the school. If you don't send it back, they'll give your spot to somebody else. If you do, they know you might come there. Some schools refund the deposit if you decide not to go, but others don't. Then on April 15 (I think?) you have to decide which one of your acceptances you want to hold on to, and withdraw from the rest. You can keep waitlists, though.

It's May 15, and it seems to be more flexible (i.e. if you don't have the school's FinAid package yet, you don't have to decide yet) than AMCAS makes it seem. Oh, but some of the early-start schools (CCLCM, etc.) require darlier decision dates. Some schools don't require a deposit, and it's usually restricted to $100 dollars if there is one. The MSAR has all of this data.

There are some exceptions though. UF has a 200 refundable deposit

I think you might have to write a formal letter for holding the acceptance.

To hold an acceptance pay the deposit basically. Somewhere around start of may/end of april you have to pull out of all but the one you wish to attend.

I was accepted to and held quite a few acceptances last year, all of which has a $100 deposit. I withdrew all but one and got every single deposit back. I actually don't know of many schools who won't give it back. Now, if you withdraw after May 15 or whenever, you can lose the deposit. When schools send your acceptance letter, there is generally a page that you have to send back either declining or accepting and you send your check along with it.
