What things matter most?

My USMLE score was 224 and my grades were kinda average....maybe even a little on the low side during second year. Is there any advice people have for trying to get a surgery residency.

Actually I know there is a guide out there from NBME with residency info maybe someone has.

Your step 1 is right on the mean for matched applicants.
Just try to do well in year 3/4 and shine in your surgery rotation.

Get a faculty mentor at your school and maybe get in some research if you have time.

First learn how to spell "surgery", not surgury 😀. Second u are competitive for GS, so if you do well on your away rotations you will be on track to match. Research projects aren't as important unless you are going for more academic programs. Also, try to make it to the American College of Surgeon's meeting this year. They have a medical student symposium where you can meet alot of PDs from programs across the country.
