I graduate this coming Friday (6/14), and less than two weeks later I start residency. Getting the ball rolling on my ECFMG certificate ASAP is therefore imperative, yet I can't find any information on this process online. My school isn't much help, and I tried calling ECFMG but got an automated message about high call volume and was subsequently hung up on. Does anyone know how this process works? Is there something I need to do on my end, or does my school handle it all?

Uhhh...please tell me that you have an ECFMG Identification number, have completed the ECFMG application, paid the fees, taken all the exams and you're just waiting for your diploma. The ECFMG website is pretty detailed and clear about the process to get the certificate. I'm not familiar with schools doing the work for you.
Presumably if you participated in the match, you have done all the above but still need to submit your final medical diploma. The instructions are here.

Uhhh... Yes, I have done all that. I am simply waiting on my diploma, and by extension, my ECFMG certificate. You are correct, it would be quite difficult to get to this point (having successfully matched and starting in three weeks) without having an ECFMG number and taken all my exams.

Good. Just making sure. Perhaps you would be surprised at the number of people who ask those questions here and have not done it.
At any rate, as the instructions note, you have to submit a copy of your final diploma to ECF MG to get your certificate. Honestly, You are cutting it close. You may need to give your residency program a heads-up that either you may not be a little start on time or ask if they can start you by just having your certificate number. That's what my program did.
