How do I know where to practice? What if I go to DS OOS?

I'm a pre-dent. I reside in VA. And I'm thinking ahead.

"Location is key," many of you say. What factors are included in deciding where to practice? What if I attend dental school in New York or California? Will an in-state DS better equip me with info about what locations are best to practice at?

I'm clueless here and I'm sure that I'm not the only one. Please help!

Well with those two particular states, you'd probably want to go back to VA. Nothing is preventing you from returning home in any other case either

Where you go to school does not restrict where you can practice as long as you pass your NBDE and state boards.

Trust me. You're life is going to be way different in 4 yrs than whatever hypotheticals you can dream up now. This isn't anything to worry about right now.

Your thinking ahead will cause you a lot of unecessary anxiety. Focus on getting into dental school first.
