Grettings SDN.

I have started looking at the primary application for med schools and wanted to get a head start. I was wondering what would be considered an appropriate thing for the "experience and its significance" portion of the application. I have the typical research and volunteering and a leadership club, but I also wanted to possibly include my artistic endeavors. I am currently making a webcomic doing both the writing and the drawing with one of my friends helping with the writing. It's not some willy-nilly just-for-jokes comic that might possibly be frowned upon but a real planned out story. I haven't started the comic yet, but I am in the process of tidying up plot details and all that. Currently, I'm just posting concept art for characters. Ok, I'm on a tangent now.

Back to question: I want to include this in my application. However, it asks for the person in charge, their contact info, position, etc. I feel that this is more of a freelance thing so I don't have a boss who can verify this or anything for the application. How do I go about including this, that is, if it is appropriate at all?

This next part is not the focus of my question, but the fact that we need a person as our "employer", so to say, also seems to imply that we can't do anything of substance without someone telling us what to do or only being a part of a larger organization, and it makes me a tad upset.

EDIT: Would it also be a problem if the name I use on the site is a pseudonym?

Is there a certain person in a webcomic where you have been contacting to publish your work or asking questions if you get stuck?

If nothing else works out, I would list your friend as a colleague, coworker, or assistant, so that he or she can verify your endeavor. (I highly doubt the schools will contact him or her, however.)

About the employer, it is not necessarily about your boss. If there is a certain website for your webcomic to be published or viewed publicly, I would list that website as your employer organization and put the contact person for that website as your employer. You may describe more about this in the description area, so that schools understand he or she is not exactly your boss.

I had a similar dilemma - I volunteer as a doula but not through any particular organization so basically "freelance." I asked another doula to be my reference and I provided her with a list of my work in case she was called. As for the organization, I listed the organization I got my certification through. It hasn't been a problem at any of my interviews so far.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Webcomics are not usually "published" by another person and they don't help the author with the creative side of things like editing or whatever. If anything, they are just host where the site where the webcomic is held and might help with technical issues like coding or ads.

Also, what do you mean by "a certain person in a webcomic"?

It is perfectly acceptable to list yourself as the contact person for things like this.

As for the pseudonym, you can say that in the description of the activity, along with the website, if you wish.

I don't know much about webcomic at all, but I was referring to maybe someone, like the host, where you could designate him/her as a contact person, if no one else is available, and then explain in detail it's a freelance and he/she is just helping with technical issues. I was just trying to see if there is anyone else you could list as a contact person. If you already have one, then disregard my comment there.

EDIT: Never mind, I didn't know that you can list yourself as a contact person!
