Do med schools simply look for a specific cutoff (like above a 3.5) and move on, or is more like 3.72 vs 3.73 being compared?

Also, is there a difference between a 3.8 and a 3.9 in the view of adcoms?
All med schools have an effective "floor" for GPA. My rule of thumb is that it's the 10th %ile for acceptees (seen using MSAR Online). For the Really Top Schools, my cutoff is the 25th %ile, unless you have something really outstanding in your app, or fulfill a particular mission for the school.

3.72 = a 3.73

3.8 = 3.9
The median GPA for MD acceptees is 3.71. You should strive ot target schools where your stats are closest to the medians . For DO, it's about 3.4-3.5ish.
