How do my Extra curriculars look for right now?

Hi as I stated in my profile of MDApplicants I'm starting my sophomore year of college at a CC this fall. How do my EC's look and what suggestions do yall have for me so I can be a pretty good change of getting into a med school [wherever i am accepted]. I did my first VR practice test on the AAMC website and got an 8. I think I could've done better if people my mom and sister weren't talking to me or playing loud music while i was doing it.. Anyways any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks.

Your EC looks good so far. But you have to improve that GPA esp. since you're only at a CC. Good luck.

Don't make the mistake of getting so over-involved in ECs that you ruin your chances by letting your GPA take a dive. A 3.34 is not going to cut it. And your science GPA is even lower. You need to aim at straight As to A-s from now on to have a good chance at MD schools. You can always work on ECs later, but repairing your GPA will get harder and harder as you take more credit hours.

Your ECs look fine, but you need eventually to work directly with sick people, 3-4 hours/week. it's good you plan the shadowing.

Yeah I did dual enrollment and it killed my GPA since I never went to class.. I have a scholarship here in Fl [bright futures] that promised to pay 100 percent if I went to CC first.. But that's not important lol I've kept an upward trend since my DE days. Next semester I plan on getting straight A's and I am volunteering 6 hours on Tuesdays at a Hospital down the road from the college. Thanks for the advice keep it coming 😛

You're on the right track, however I recommend you start to do some volunteering at a hospital or clinical setting rather than just shadowing. There are alot of internship programs out there that will give you great exposure and look pretty great on your app.

As for your GPA and CC. I went to CC before I transferred to UCLA. Your GPA needs to be 3.5 3.6+. Up to the point where you transfer that should be your number one priority. When I transferred to UCLA my GPA was a 3.8 4.0 sciences. Once you do get into a higher level institution you will find alot more opportunities such as research, and clinical volunteering.

Almost forgot, make sure you prepare 150% for your mcat, that is the almighty equalizer, if your gpa is low you will need to make up for it on your mcat.

Thank you for the reply MrMilad hit the nail on the head. I'm totally devoted to getting my GPA up and I've already began practicing for the MCAT VR. I would try the sciences but I haven't taken them yet 😛 All I know is that I work less hours now [20 / week] and I set aside one day out of the week to go volunteer at a hospital. I'm definitely devoted to it and if I don't get MD I can always go DO. I just need to become a doctor here in the US and then I can go abroad and do missions [ What my goal is ]
