how do schools follow their minimum-score-on-each-section policy?

the rc and qr section have been getting harder this year. if someone bomb just one section say below 18 and had amazing scores on other sections like 22+, do schools really toss out their applications with just one bad score. nearly all schools have this policy to go through their initial screening of applicants, the question is how strict do they follow it? say you have 22AA with only one 17 on either rc or qr, would adcom really toss out your applications as they do with a 17AA?

I don't think that schools are that strict. I have a friend who received a 12 in reading but like an 18 AA and she got into Buffalo. She was also waitlisted for Creighton. I don't know about other schools and I know that my sample size is ridiculously small but judging from her case, I don't think all schools are that quick to reject.

Yeah, I don't think all the schools are so restrictive with their DAT policies. I was accepted with a 13 in QR, so I know it's possible. I wish there was a better DAT QR prep book for the students coming along. That section was the difference between a 20AA and 18AA for me. The rest of my test scores were fine.

I agree about the QR. I made a 14 on it, and it was the difference between getting 1-2 points higher.

I think if overall you did well, then that's enough for them to go by, not everyone is perfect in all sections, and that is very understandable. Good luck!

i had a 17 RC with 22 AA and TS, and still got in. granted i got a 20 on RC the first time i took the DAT so that may have factored in.

to answer your question: i assume each school is different. some may be more strict than others.

good luck, jB!🙂
