how do you formally inform schools youre not attending?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would call so you can free up a seat for another person.

I think it would be nice to call them and let them know. The sooner they know, the sooner they can invite one of us who maybe waiting for a spot, and the sooner we can make our final plans, and the sooner we can let other schools know we won't be attending, and the sooner they can give our spot to someone else and the sooner.....
..... when you make a final decision, let the school know, it will be better for everyone.
Thanks

By the way I think formally informing them you aren't going to attend by letting the deadline pass is an oxymoron. 😀

Schools have different procedures for withdrawing (usually on their website) but I wrote letters that I sent snail (since some require signatures). Also, I agree with the others above who said to definitely take action right away so that you free up those seats for someone else who may be waiting.

do you call them officially or just let the deadline pass or what?

To do it "formally" you'd probably need to show up in person and wear a tuxedo 😀. However, you should email them at a minimum and send some snail mail just to make sure. Please, do it ASAP because there are probably quite a few people who would love to take your slot.

good luck to those hopin to get into nova, western and nycom.. a space jsut opened up

You could send them a break-up telegram. But I think an email with a written follow-up letter would more than suffice. Send chocolates if you wish. But if you want to do it "formally", for heavens sake, don't just send an email that says "It's not you, it's me."

I sent them a picture message with me giving a thumbs down.

That should do the trick right?

Write them a rejection letter. 😉

Ooooh I like this idea! It could say something to the effect of:

Dear [insert COM here],

I regret to inform you that your institution does not meet the required minimums for the next four years of my life. Did you seriously think I would spend ~$60,000 a year at your school? Only if I had just YOUR acceptance in hand. As you know, competition for my matriculation at a COM was high this year. I applied to 10 schools and was accepted at five, and as you can see from these numbers, not all schools can be attended. Better luck with future applicants. K thanks.

Sincerely,
[accepted med student]

P.S. Please disregard this letter if, in a few weeks, the med school at which I haved decided to matriculate revokes my acceptance upon realizing that I'm actually way too dumb for med school and/or sees the Facebook album titled, "Night of Mayhem: Toga Party."

oh good i was gonna start a thread like this but the OP beat me to it 🙂

I'm just planning on calling them and telling them straight up. Then if there is a formal way to decline the acceptance, im sure they'd tell me on the phone how to do so.

I'm gonna let go of my acceptance at Nova within the next week or so, so its gonna open up for one of you still waiting...

goodluck!!!!!!!!! :luck:
