No kidding; I didn't feel ready to take either of the Steps, yet take them I did.

yeah - my only problem is that i took step I once already and failed. i'm scared to retake it at this point....

Hi, are you currently doing QBANK or questions elsewhere?
How are you doing on your scores? Have you improved from before? I would really also recommend taking the NBME assessment on the internet, prob. at least a month before your exam to see what areas need to be worked on.I did the NBME less than a week before my exam, and I dont think that was a good idea.
I just took the step 1 yesterday, and there were some very easy questions, and some very difficult questions that I have never heard of such things before. From my experience with the test, I'd say that Goljan notes and the CD are very good. Plus, I'd recommend the newest edition of First Aid, bec. I saw there were some questions from the 2004 edition that were not in older editions. That was the funny thing- they asked those minute points that were added to the 2004 1st Aid. Plus, some qu. on the exam seemed familiar, but I dont remember where I had seen them before.
I'd really recommend sticking to very few sources. I'd just recommend QBANK, 2004-2004 1st AID, and Goljan. That's all. Everything else can be supplementary but there is no need to go through other books thoroughly. If you run out of QBANK, you can do other questions, bec. I really think that questions are the way to go. They may not repeat exact questions, but the same concept is there.

So, in order for you to determine how you are performing at this point, I think you should take one NBME assessment and then decide from there what to do.

That's just my experience though.

yeah - i took the nbme a few weeks into studying and got a 390 or 400. definitely not a super-solid score although i don't know that i have to hang up my white coat yet.... i am also doing qbank right now. it's my second time through (i used qbank the first time i took the exam) and my average is about 68%. it's so hard to tell what i actually KNOW and what i remember from the last time around. when i took the boards the first time, my qbank average was in the low/mid 50s.... i wish there was some other source for questions that was as "undeniably" good as everyone says qbank is....

An NBME score of 500 and above is a sign of substantail strength.
One month befor the test form 1 and two weeks before form 2.
