I have been weak in english and reading since I can remember. What are some ways to improve for the DAT's?

Thank you.

Here's a tip that can really help you during the exam:

You are given a passage to read during the reading comprehension section of the DAT. After you read, you answer questions on the passage, and of course there is a limited amount of time.

Each passage you are given will have numbered paragraphs. If you take your scratch paper and make a note of the main focus of each paragraph you will be able to more quickly refer back to the passage to answer the question.

Just put one or two words that are the main focus of the paragraph. For example -

[FONT=Verdana,Arial]1. Influenza usually appears in epidemic form and affects many people at once. Although it affects all age groups, the highest incidence occurs in school children. The greatest severity is in young children, elderly people, immunosuppressed people, and those with chronic diseases.

.[FONT=Verdana,Arial]2. The most common complication of influenza is pneumonia, which can be primary influenza viral pneumonia or secondary to bacterial infection. .
[FONT=Verdana,Arial]Influenza also may cause myositis, exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Reye's syndrome, myocarditis, pericarditis, transverse myelitis and encephalitis..

[FONT=Verdana,Arial]for this, i would make a mark on my paper that says:.
[FONT=Verdana,Arial]
.
[FONT=Verdana,Arial] 1. who gets flu.
[FONT=Verdana,Arial]2. common complications.

[FONT=Verdana,Arial]Now, when the question comes up and asks "which of the following are not a complication of influenza", you'll know to go right to paragraph 2.

Read the wall street journal and look for science articles that are dense.

honestly don't bother with the wall street journal...its horrible.

just try working through the reading comp passages piece by piece. read the first question, read the passage until you find the answer, answer the question, read the next question, keep reading the passage until you find it...

half way through the questions you'll have read the entire passage and you'll know where each topic is discussed in the passage in case you run into any inference questions.

and if you're gonna read anything, stick to science or nature, not the wall street journal.

I agree with this 100%. It's quite easy to bounce from question to passage, and as you're skimming the passage for one question, you'll find answers to other questions.

Also, most of the answers are worded exactly as they are in the passage.

I got a 23 on RC, if that means anything.
