Anyone who understands the application process, please help me out here. I submitted my application to addsas in May and my GPA was verified and everything was completed from my part. According to aadsas, they will mail out my applications next week or so. My problem right now is the committee letter. I can't request the LOR from my school committee till first week of August, that means it will take another 4 to 6 weeks for my letter to get to dental schools from the request date (although the letter will not be going through the aadsas). The committee generally takes 4 to 6 weeks to prepare a letter. Now my question is do I still have an advantage as others who apply early or all my efforts is useless b/c of this LOR? I am worried because I don't have very high GPA or super DAT score 🙁

adcoms won't review your file for an interview invitation until it is 100% complete. schools prefer a committee letter but you might not be able to afford to wait that long if your stats are mediocre. interview slots begin filling up pretty quickly beginning in august/september so complete your file asap 👍

ps: it is ridiculous that your school won't begin your composite letter until august. is your pre-prof office incompetent or did you drop the ball?

Yes, the committe is ridiculous. I have sent all my recommendation sfrom my professors to them back in May. I have been trying to call them for an interveiw set up, but so far i'm not success. I think i'm pretty screwed. 😱

If you have to wait 4-6 weeks to get your committee letter once you make that request in August, it'll be around November before dental schools get your application completed. That is late for anyone, good stats or bad. You might be better off getting together your own LORs from professors and sending them out sooner.

You don't need the committee letter - if it is such a hassle then step around it or, while you are waiting, it get 3 LOR's from professors and send them in and then when the committee gets around to writing your letter you can send it in if you feel like it. As far as adcoms are concerned a committee letter is nice but they'll consider individual LOR's just the same. Trust me, adcoms don't know about the inner workings and politics of your particular undergrad - what they are concerned about is a completed file, a good guarantee of you graduating (if you haven't already done so), and good numbers. As starbright pointed out, delaying your application for the LOR will most likely push your file out to October/November and no matter how great your file may be an interview will not be granted until it is complete, and that includes LOR's. Go ahead and get those LOR's and send 'em in. 👍
