I rotated through 2 non-teaching hospitals with hospitalists. Neither did structured rounds.

At one the pharmacist did "multidisciplinary" rounds in the MICU, but there were no physicians present, just nursing and occasionally dietary or RT. We mostly just addressed core measures stuff- DVT and GI prophy, sedation vacations, bed type, head of bed, oral care and abx.

For those of you that work/have worked in non-teaching hospitals:

- Does your facility employ hospitalist physicians?

- What level of support do you provide to these physicians?

- Do you participate in structured rounds at your facility?

1) Yes
2) Nothing, really. Just whatever they need as they need it.
3) Not structured rounds. There is a skilled nursing round we do every wednesday where one of us goes up and we discuss all of the patients in our SNU.

Med rec is the most annoying thing there is. Some clerk somewhere that knows **** about drugs...I don't even know where...types the home med list up...the damned surgeon doesn't even read the thing....and we get **** like 3 beta blockers on one patient and a guy that claims he takes 3 Percocet q3h straight....because said surgeon just takes a pen and draws a straight line through all of the "order" boxes next to all of the home meds. And then when we call him he's like "I don't know what any of those drugs do...call the attending." Then why the f' did you fill out the damned form in the first place...grrr...
