How early is early?

What about 2ndaries

Get a turn-around time of a week or less (from when you get them... it depends on the school on when you will get them) on those secondaries. That's what I wish I would have done.... 😳

Agreed. Preferably 48 hour turnaround. To accomplish this, keep in mind that your LORs need to be uploaded & ready to go. Get some passport-style photos scanned & printed too.

We don't get secondaries until late June by the earliest, right?

Yeah I think it's about early July. Med schools are still dealing with the previous class up August sometimes. The first AMCAS transmission to the schools is around early July, I believe and then some automated secondaries will be sent out (e.g. Columbia).

Start drafting your essays using the secondary prompts from last year 😛

But yes, having those passport photos ready to go, and having the LORs ready to go is key.

Last year it was June 25th.

Yes. Use previous secondary prompts! You guys have nothing else to do nowadays since your PS is done. Right??

Anyway I just looked at my old e-mails and in 2007, the first transmission was on 6/25 too.

How do you get access to the old secondary prompts from last year? Will they be pretty much the same because I am going to try to finish up as many as possible before my summer obligations begin.

Do you have to submit the LOR the same day you submit your AMCAS or is it okay to submit them later?

[1] SDN has archives of the old secondary prompts. I think Shemarty did a pretty job of organizing all of them from last cycle. Just search and they should turn up.

[2] Most will not change but before you copy/paste your response, make sure they agree. Methinks it's instant rejection if the prompt doesn't match the response.

[3] LORs can be submitted after AMCAS submission/verification.

June 1st, June 15th, any time before July? What do you guys think?

I don't think AMCAS even sends anything to schools until July 5th or something this year, so really anything that's verified around the first week of July is really early. Verified in late July is probably still on the early side. Depending on wait times for verification, I'd shoot for being complete by around June 15th.

I was complete everywhere by early august and had multiple interview invitations for september. so, even august is early, i think.

Passport photos?

You should definitely take advantage of the stockpile of prompts. That said, even if you have them completed when your secondary arrives, give it 48 hours. So that it appears you started them upon the arrival of the secondary. This may be completely misguided, but I think that giving it a little time proves you put some effort into it. Furthermore, I'm not suggesting that one has not put effort into their responses. I am merely suggesting showing a parallel between your writing and the appropriate time period for that writing. If that makes any sense at all.

Do these need to get scanned and sent in via online?

For some schools you will be able to digitally upload pictures with your secondary. For others you will have to mail a picture. If you can get a digital picture taken, most of the print stations you find at various stores (wallgreens, target, etc.) have an option for pocket sized which should serve you well.

You, my friend, are wise.
