Hey everyone. For those of you applying to Nova, I was wondering how far their interview dates are booked. I have an appointment to interview on October 27th, but I wanted to reschedule since I have 2 other interviews that week....any idea what dates would be available?

I interviewed there on sept. 28th and the dean of admissions told us he was booking into January.

hermie is right, they're way booked up. I'd suggest you suck it up and go.

I tried to reschedule back in early September and they told me if I did that, the next available spot was late November.

So on Sept 28, I took two midterms that day, then afterwards hopped on a 5 hour red-eye flight overnight. I arrived to Fort Lauderdale in the morning, and then went straight to the interview. The humidity was getting to me, I was starving, and I had gone 48 hours without sleep. But at that point I was running on adrenaline so it didn't matter (for instance, I went a whole hour without having to blink my eyes). In the end, it was honestly one of my best interviews. I just hope that the dean who interviewed me wasn't too disturbed by the bags under my eyes. 😱

BTW, The dean you will meet earned my respect right away. He might seem real serious, but its because he's honest and a straight shooter. He's the kind of guy who won't BS you. And vice versa, he can tell immediately if you're BS'ing him. So don't put on fake smiles or pretend to laugh. Kissing a-- is a sign of weakness, and thus you'll lose his respect. Fortunately, I was so strung out I had little patience for fake smiles and chuckles.

hey brian, thanks for the info!

Yeah, I decided to suck it up and go. I'm going on Thursday the 27th and then I have another interview on Friday the 28th at 8 am. I also have one on Monday the 24th, so it looks like I'm gonna be skipping out on almost a week of school. yikes.

As long as I don't have huge flight delays and cancellations, I'm sure it'll work out. What time did the interview day end at Nova?

The interview is suppose to end at 4pm, but it ended at 3pm for me. I was also the last one to interview. They interview 2 at a time so the rest of the group has to sit and wait.

The waiting room was funny. There were 9 of us, all guys, and 7 of them were from Utah. There was also a group of nursing students waiting for interviews. One of the nursing girls kept bagging dentistry and saying, dentistry is gross you look down smelly mouths, and how she would never do that. Then one of the guys responded, "don't nurses have to do some pretty nasty stuff? like wipe down patients after they crap on themselves and give sponge baths?" The girl got mad and couldn't say anything, and the whole room was laughing. Leave it to the Utah boys to put the haters in place.

It's very interesting here at Nova. The nursing students act very elitist... what I think it funny is that they all are required to wear their white coats (and take pride in it) while dental students are "required" to wear coats too, but 95% do not.

I guess it's like this, after 4 years, they'll be taking their coats off, we'll be putting ours on. 🙂

Disclaimer: My mother is a nurse, brother in law is a nurse practitioner. I have no hate for nurses, only annoyances for the ones at Nova. Heck, even their professors barge into our classrooms before lectures are over and act annoyed at 9:59am. Do they really need 11 minutes instead of 10 to set up for their lecture?

🙂

LOL. But I think the nursing students wear their white coats because the majority of them are females. I have noticed that scrubs make girls look "alittle different", the white coats help cover that up.

I found Nova really interesting since they have so many different professions under one roof. Nursing, osteo, dental, sonography... and alot more. Real good environment for future health professionals. I mean wouldn't you get tired of just seeing other dental students everyday? At Nova looks like you can hangout with nurses. 👍

I agree, it's fun to be integrated... I liked having classes with the DOs and optometry. The only caveat to having so many programs: parking lines and cafeteria lines are MUCH MUCH worse than it was during my freshman year. Last year, they added 80 students to DO, a whole nursing program, and vascular sonography. It's gotten a little TOO busy, but as a whole, I can still find a spot to park as long as I am at school by 8.
