I'm currently awaiting a response to my scribe application and i was just wondering how fast and accurate you should be able to type. I can currently type around 47-50 wpm with about 70-85% accuracy. Is this sufficient enough? Also i can type without looking at the keyboard but sometimes i have to look down, is this a detriment also or am i overreacting?

I want to say my job requires a minimum typing speed of 60 wpm. I think it's okay to look down when you type, but you might have to work on your speed a little. The times I have to type the fastest are when doctors tell me like 15 physical exam findings at once or they want to dictate their treatment rationale. In those cases, you want to make sure you get their exact wording down so you have to be able to type fast.

Isn't this something you should be looking at job descriptions for?

I really think you should be able to do 70+. typeracer.com is great

If you're typing day to day language at 50wpm, your typing speed with medical language will be lower than that.
