how many pages per hour can you say you read from the constanzo text? Maybe I just have a cold because i can only digest 10pages per hour..

Ten pages an hour for Costanzo is definitely faster than the pace I was going at. I found the text extremely dense and jam-packed with info. I also spent a lot of time trying to understand the graphs. In the end though, I found the Step I phys way less detailed than BRS physiology.

It all depends on your style of reading (straight through vs. highlighting vs. taking notes vs. paraphrasing summaries, etc.) and how fast you tend to read.

I usually average around 2 minutes per page of any given textbook if I'm really concentrating, 3-4 minutes if it's really boring or I hate the material.

But I'm a fast reader.

I usually only read constanzo if the class notes sucked for the day so if I'm reading it I go slower to make sure I understand the concept. I also go slower because I make flash cards as I read. I don't think I could read a whole Constanzo chapter, make in BRS, but not the full text book.

Totally agree.

Constanzo is like the M1 version of Big Robbins. Read it, do not use it as a study aid (no highlighting, notes in the margins, etc). Then go over your class notes and/or BRS phys for studying purposes.

Another thing I would consider for Phys is a pre-test type question book. Helped me tremendously.

I agree with the first part (costanzo being the M1 version of big robbins, it is excellent). I wasnt to happy with the pre-test series of question books. I did however, LOVE, costanzo's cases and problems. Very important material pulled from her big book and brs book and applied to common clinical cases. I still read it during M2. If you can find a cheap copy (you can) I'd highly recommend this purchase. Or you can always get it from the library.

Personally, once I discovered how to properly highlight in my junior year of college, I can't read a textbook without highlighter in hand. Otherwise I'll tend to drift and space and my eyes will naturally start skimming the page.

How do you use a highlighter properly?

im doing the "big" costanzo (ie not brs) right now and the renal chapter is taking 2-3 minutes a page for me to really understand the material. Reading this twice to three times should be good enough for understanding before i start doing old test questions. If i have problems with material then, I would review those areas.
