Hey everyone,

I was wondering how full is USC right now. I was reading last years posts and it seemed as though they were barely 1/4 full at this time. Also I was wondering if I should send in a letter of intent because USC is my number one choice.

Thanks

Ya USC is my top choice as well. Do you think it is a good idea to send them an email and update them on my current extracurriculars because I recently got hired in a dental office?

I think you should phone USC and ask that question
I phoned them yesterday...
They are still interviewing people
If your GPA is around 3.5 and Dat around 19
I think everyone will still have a good chance of getting accepted :xf:

In my 1/30 interview, they said that the class was 1/3 full.

1/3 -2/5 sounds about right

look for a big acceptance batch after the current round of interviews

anyone know when the next batch of interviews are going out???

I heard USC already "moved on" from its pre-December interviewees. Not that it matters to me, just passing along what I read on here.

But anyway, I would go ahead and call/update. It shows you're still interested.

From what I've heard, I thought they rank students and then send out acceptances regardless of if they interviewed before December or after December.

True but if you didn't get in pre-dec, chances are you are low on the ranking. When the post-dec people are put on the list, you will land around the same place or SLIGHTLY higher/lower depending on your competition.

wow so they're still pretty empty huh?? What's their class size??? I think it was over 100 right?? If I am not mistaken...

it's empty alright
However, the entrance average is still not lower than some other schools (ie Temple, NYU or BU)
Average entrance class GPA= 3.47, DAT= 19-20
Unless you applied late, and have GPA around 3.4/3.5 or good academic trends
The chances of landing a spot probably isn't very high
USC has 3000+ applicants every year..

It's slightly lower, they go over the numbers at the interview. From what I remember, the average GPA was 3.3 something with a range of 3.2-4.0

this is last year's profile ..directly from USC Website
"

  • The 144 students entering the USC School of Dentistry this Fall were selected from an applicant pool of nearly 3,200 applicants. Applications were received from each of the 50 states and 50 foreign countries.
  • The applicant to position ratio was approximately 22 to one.

  • The entering class science GPA is 3.45 and the average overall GPA is 3.40. Both GPAs range from 3.20 to 4.00.

  • The average DAT scores were: Academic Average 18.2; Science Average 18; and PAT 19; range 15– 28."

Wow how can a school have so many applicants and such non-competitive stats? A 3.4 average with a 3.2-4.0 range? A lot of people must've had a 3.2!

Some people find this to be offensive

Let just makes me wonder why USC has low graduation rate with PBL...
At University of BC, we have PBL too, average GPA= 3.8 DAT= 21...and almost everyone graduates..

The graduation rate for class of 2008 was in the high 80s and PBL has nothing to do with graduation. It is the clinical requirements and structure that makes it difficult to finish on time. Good luck getting into UBC, USC probably doesn't want to accept you either.

dude, you got my message in the wrong way
I think USC is a great school
From my point of view, I think there is nothing wrong with the program at USC
Maybe it is just the students that are not working hard enough??
That is why I compared the stats at UBC (current dean is from USC) and USC to tell people that might be the reason why graduation is lower..

Maybe people shouldn't bad mouth the school so much...

Just got an interview invite.

Do you guys know if they review the whole application once after the interview? I really thought that USC was a great school and enjoyed my time there. I'm really hoping for an acceptance.

Considering there is no formal interview at any time during the whole process, I see no other way than to review the whole application (along with the green applicant survey, writing sample, and mock PBL notes from interview day) when making their decisions.

I have an interview on March 5 and I am really excited for it. I hope there is still room in the class! Does anyone know?

I was told last week that the class is only 40% full

Anybody know when they're sending out the next batch of USC acceptances? I was told end of February but was curious if anyone had any more information.

Hey guys
I wanted to know if anyone is experiencing the same problem as I do.
I have a 21 DAT 20 PAT, 3.7 gpa, research, hands on dental experience (6yrs) and USC has not even given me an interview yet. considering the fact that I want to stay in LA USC is one of my primary choices. The funny thing is that I had heared that USC stats are much lower than what I have. Should I maybe send them a letter or somethin?

I would really appreciate your advice
