I agree with Rezdawg...BU is great so far, our class is far more relaxed than I expected...so far so good. I agree that my opinion is likely to change in the clinic.

This isn't a time to try to say its better than it is to try to make you feel good about your decision or, from the other side, a total pessimist about something that may be good. Just be honest. Does it suck or is it enjoyable?
Please state your school.

This place has been nothing like I had imagined, and just about everything that I've wanted.

Dental school opens doors to a myriad of things, some of it life-changing. Enjoy it while you can, it's only 4 years!

I love it so far, but we haven't quite finished the first quarter. I hear clinic has lots of red tape and upper classmen say it can get tedious. But, I think the faculty are fantastic and more helpful than any other faculty I've worked with at other schools.

Looking specifically for Maryland, UMDNJ, Columbia and Nova students to give input... Now that the first semester is almost over, do you have more you can say?!? Any 3rd or 4th years out there who can help? I have to decide by Jan 13th.... 😕

I think most of the happy campers posting here are still in pre-clinic but I could be wrong. I too was once very proud Temple student believing all the BS I had heard during interviews. Once sophomore year was over, I began to see the light...and being on student council has helped me witness the shady activity going on here first hand.

I'mFillingFine said:This reminds me of something interesting that happened during my Buffalo interview. One of the interviewers asked what I imagine dental school will be like. I sort of popped out what I thought to be the expected answer (making sure everything was true...I just wanted to sound really excited and positive, which I am!) I said how it'd be more fascinating than undergrad since ALL the topics are what I want to be studying (instead of general education and whatnot) and how it will be filled with challenges and constant stimulation, and that I was excited overall.
She said "that's weird...no one has ever said she/he was looking FORWARD to dental school! Everyone says it'll be hell!"
I mean, students should know what they're getting into, but I just don't see how there is overwhelming and unexpected stress....do you think the people who hate every moment of the process maybe are more interested in the lifestyle or financial aspects of dentistry and not the science or study of the mouth itself? Isn't this what people want to be doing???
I'm interested to know how this actually plays out once you're in school....
Biogirl361 said:well, a lot of what you are studying the first two years is not in fact directly related to dentistry - you will be learning biochem, histology, immunology, and other basic medical sciences which relate to the body but not specifically to dentistry. also, even if you love what you're learning, the sheer volume and the stress of having so much to do at once can really dampen your enthusiasm for school in general. for example i love practicing my preclinic skills, and i even kind of like waxing for dental anatomy - but when you have so much other stuff to study for, these projects can often become just another (very time-consuming!!) thing you have to get done.

Sprgrover said:I'm still happy with my decision to attend Penn. Sure, there are days when I feel like I have been feed through a meat grinder, but I understood that dental school was going to be tough before I signed up. I've made some good friends here and the other students are really helpful as well, the faculty are very approachable and many will bend over backwards to help you.
