how hard is it to actually get into Nova's DO and DMD dual degree program?

How competitive is it?

I read somewhere that temple's MBA/DMD dual degree program only had 1 student last year (i could have read wrong). Is it like that for DO/DMD?

When I was in high school, my career choice came down to 4 options; dentist, police officer, doctor, and lawyer. At the end I chose dentist b/c after shadowing it suited me the best, but now is Nova is offering another dream of mine, I'd like to take a hit at it. Even if I have to do a couple years of residency after, I don't really mind. I think it'll be fun.

there are two branches of medical doctors: allopathic and osteopathic medicine. Allopathic (MD degrees) and Osteopathic (DO degrees) are both medical doctors; they've taken the mcat, went to medical school, can prescribe medicine, perform surguries, etc, but their main difference is their philosphy on how to approach a problem.

For example: if you have a headache, the MD would give you painkillers, whereas the DO would be concerned of your daily routines that might cause the headache as well as other factors due to the holistic approach DO's are trained to do.

We see more MDs than DOs because DOs are pretty new (only started in the last century-ish) and are more predominant in the East Coast.

Due to the lack of numbers, DOs get bad publicity, but are slowly on the rise in popularity.

I think as long as you are a good student and pass all your classes you should get into the program. I know of a student in our class who got in and he wasn't the #1 student in our class or anything (I mean he worked hard). I think we only had one student this year who did it but that was because only one wanted to.
