how hard is it to specialize as a DO?

i'm wondering because i would like to pursue psychiatry with a DO degree. i checked out the official website and there are only a handful listed who are practicing psychiatrists.

I know probably the least about psych out of all the specialties, but I don't think it is very competitive - I might be wrong though. Regardless, I know it's not derm/plastics competitive, and there are DO's who go into those fields. In addition to the MD psych programs, you would have a great chance at the DO psych programs: Henry Ford, MSU, Millcreek, and UMDNJ.

Psychiatry is debatably a Primary Care specialty. For many Psych patients the Psychiatrist is the only physician they see.

Psych is listed on the VCOM secondary as one of the potential, "primary care" fields. It isn't very competitive overall, but I have read that it has become a little more competitive in the past couple of years.
