How hard is to schedule for a Step III exam?

I will be taking Step 2 CS in upcoming months so I cannot register for Step 3 yet. As you guys know, Step 2 CS exam spots fill up almost 7~8 months in advance. Compared to this, how hard is it to schedule for Step 3 exam? Say if I will have my passing Step 2 CS score by sometime in October, would I be able to sign up for a Step 3 exam in December?
