My prehealth adviser is so backed up i don't think i can even interview with her until early August at this point. I have all of my letters right now and ready to submit. Transcript and everything else has been reqdy since mid June. Would it be smart to wait for the committee letter or should I just submit 4 letters? I dont think it will be until mid August at earliest until i can submit with the committee letter. This is seriously more stressful and frustrating than the DAT

I would go without the committee letter. Some schools say they prefer the committee letter if your school offers it, but I've never actually seen it hold back the candidates who apply without it. I don't think it's worth the delay until mid-August if you have your other letters in place.

another thing is committee letter is preferred if your school offers one.
it was interesting because when I put the name of the committee writer in AADSAS, it automatically filed out like contact info, email, position etc. so the schools know which schools offer committee letters and which don't.
ur reason is justified since you'd have to wait 2 months for LOR's. one thing is you should have inquired about these committee letters earlier. but there's nothing you can do now.
if you talk to professors directly, you might be able to get the individual letters in sooner. i don't think it matters too much. committee letter is more structured whereas LOR's from individual people can be all over the place in terms of format, content.

My school has one but a lot of pre-dents seem not to use it as it's really geared towards pre-meds

Go with the individual letters if the committee letter will keep you waiting. The benefit from the committee letter is not enough to cover the consequences of waiting until August.

If the only thing holding you back from applying is the committee letter, I would go ahead and upload your letters individually and apply without the committee. I don't think it's worth waiting until August.

May I asked how it's geared towards pre-meds? Just wondering bc my school has a lot of pre-meds and like 4 pre-dentals in our class.

Exactly for that reason (that there are way more pre-meds), I don't believe there's a single dentist on the committee, just physicians and professors. Anyway, I have friends who skipped the committee and got into great places (NYU, our in-state school).

A lot of committees don't have dentists though, do they?

The committee makes your life easier by organizing all your letters for you. They package them all together and usually write some sort of a cover letter for you too.

Same here. It's so weird that there's like 5 predents in like 4000 kids that attend my school. So many premed lol. I don't think all of them will make it into school. 100% of oredental students have made it into dental school from my undergrad

Yes, there are always a lot more premed than predent! We have about 2000 at my school, but only about 3 apply to dental school each year. Last year none of them got accepted but a lot of premeds did.

None of the predents did? Thats crazy.
On another another note I really don't understand how dentistry is so saturated. Besides 4 predents at my school and 1 dent that I met on SDN I have never met anyone that wants to be a dentist. it just doesn't seem like a popular track...still there's like thousands and thousands of applicants and the field is saturated in certain area...odd

None. Although I've never met any senior pre-dents at school so I'm not sure if anyone actually applied.
I think since we both go to small schools, we don't have the opportunity to meet as many predents. When I toured Auburn U, I believe they had ~70 freshman and ~40 who ended up applying and I know UTK also has many too, so a large percentage of applicants probably come from large universities.

Just be aware. I'm a NC resident and if your school offers a committee letter and you don't get it your automatically rejected from ECU

Good thing im not in NC. Our school has a opt, med, pa and dental school with one pre-health adviser so wait list is crazy every year. Its a large state school.

My pre-health adviser is suggesting that I submit the application first then get all the stuff processed. It is still going to be August until it is fully complete, so I dont know if it changes anything.
