How important is name when job hunting post-residency?

So I want to work in the DC/MD/VA area which is a pretty competitive market IMO. When residents hit the job market, does it matter if you went to a residency program with a big name tied to it? Or do directors look for quality pharmacists even from the smaller/less notable hospital? Which one do you think carries more weight?

People are looking for social skills, teamwork capability, and overall knowledge first and foremost.

The school doesn't mean much unless they went to the same alma mater as you, and that only gives you a conversation starter... you aren't getting hired simply because you went to the same school.

Not school** I meant post-residency. Forgot to specify in my post.

For the Feds (main employer), it really doesn't matter unless you also came from a Fed residency (customary to always interview even if not qualified as a courtesy to the parent residency site). There's some anti-Howard bias that's palpable though in certain quarters.

It depends on the job you want post-residency. If you absolutely want to work in a academic medical center (Hopkins, UMaryland, VCU) then you're probably better suited doing a residency at the same or a similar institution. Otherwise i'd say it's fair game depending on your networking.

As mentioned, institution mostly matters in terms of networking opportunities. Getting a job, including with the Feds (biggest employer in the DMV area), is more about who you know, at least in terms of getting your foot in the door/getting a job interview.
