it seems that when applying for residency, people in numerous different fields say that it is important, if not crucial, to showcase at their hospital in order to even be considered for a residency spot.
after talking to a bajillion people, it seems this is less important for psych. opinions?

im in the process of setting up 4th year electives now. i have to limit myself to NY for residency due to family reasons. i know there are plenty of residencies here, but they arent all "DO-friendly" as we like to say.

so is it worth my time to do electives at NYU/Columbia with the gods of psychiatry since my chances of matching there are slim-to-none? i mean, i think i have a pretty decent application but im just trying to be realistic. i know if i work hard i can get a great LOR, and i know that is pretty sweet. or should i do electives at the so-called lower tier programs to show them how fantastic i am? i'm already planning a sub-i at my #1 residency choice (i already rotated there as a 3rd year).

i couldnt find any threads on this when i searched. anyone want to help? you can tell me to shut up if im being too neurotic.
thanks😀
