U of I can be extremely hot and cold. I personally know someone that was rejected there (pre-interview) but accepted to Pritzker and Northwestern. I also have a second cousin that's an MS-2 there with a 3.1c/s and a 24 (white female). Extremely random process.
The guy in question was probably a war hero or built water towers in Somalia or something.

OP, you shouldn't single out one specific applicant. It's not a nice thing to do. Obviously the school liked them enough so leave it be now. Maybe they have a compelling life story. Maybe they had a bad year. We don't know.
Or more likely, this is a just an example of someone living out their med school application fantasy online. Unfortunately, this prevents mdapplicants from being a particularly good resource.

You'd think GLaDOS would be the one testing experiments to come to a reasonable hypothesis, not asking lowly humans their opinions on a matter.
