How long do secondaries take?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am interested in this as well. Also, please do say which school.

and for those who applied really early, what's the turn-around time?

The longest one I had to fill out was UCSF which took me probably around 4 hours (It might have been even longer as I think about it). That was mostly due to the essays and having to double check my spelling and what not. The other secondary took probably 30 minutes. So hopefully that gives you an idea. The more schools you apply to the longer they'll take. If you apply early you can hear back from dental schools around august. (is that what you're asking?)

i did penn and ucsf first. they took me about two days. and for the other schools that require secondary essays (~10 schools) i just copied and pasted from ucsf/penn secondaries. control+F -> replace ALL 🙂

btw, once u get your secondary app request, you should finish and submit them within a week to show strong interest. And for those which don't request you for secondary app (ex, penn), you should do them ASAP, by beginning of july to be an early candidate.

thanks a lot guys. sl2obel2ts how long did it take for secondaries to come? and when did you submit the first app?

The lovely 300 word Michigan essay was excellent. I believe they sent that out around the end of July or early August, or that's when I submitted it.

How much did you guys write for the Penn supplemental?

I wrote about 3.5 pages for Penn

??? 3.5 PAGES? wow that's a lot man. I got a lot of work to do still that means. 🙁

Well, be concise most importantly. If you don't have anything important to say then don't say it. It did take a me like 2 weeks to write but I am slow.

UCSF and UCLA are probably among the longest ones. UCSF took me a whole day, mostly due to the essays. UCLA took like 6-7 hours, most because it's a .doc file rather than a .pdf file, and you have to work somewhat hard so that you fill it out without messing up the original format.
