I contacted AACOMAS and they said verification takes 4-6 weeks, but when I checked the AACOMAS verification thread here, people got verified in as little as 2 weeks. If I were to submit my application today, how long do you think it would take to get verified? Would it take less since the peak time of applying has passed?

I wouldn't recommend submitting anything now. It is best to wait until next cycle to apply.

Agreed. Even with a 2-week turn-around, you'd be looking at a few more weeks before secondaries are complete and your file is even reviewed. Though schools may interview into late March-early April, counting on an II in February really limits your options. You'd also benefit from not being a reapplicant next year.

Submitted mid September and I got verified exactly 4 weeks later.

Pointless. Wait for this cycle and apply June 1st.

So you didn't make the MD and aiming to have a DO backup at this late in the game? Join the crowd of 1000's of scrambling and desperate MD applicants! You should have done this early Dec. at the latest. It might be 2 weeks and it might be 6 weeks, either way you are best case at the bottom of the list of 1000's sometime in February.

Unless you have a ~4.0 and 515 MCAT, you are potentially throwing good money away and even then it's a toss up. As an adcom I'd wonder then why MD schools didn't want you, but I'm guessing you are on the low side of stats for an MD? IMO get things in order and be an early applicant for next cycle. Fix your deficits and reapply to both MD (if you have the stats) and DO next time. Or apply and have a snowballs chance to get in (Do you feel lucky?) or risk being listed as a re-applicant.

Best of Luck!

Right around March, we start seeing an uptick in stats of interviewees. I always interpret this as meaning they're folks who are either are kicking tires and want to check out both their DO safety schools, and the MD schools they've either interviewed at or have been accepted to.

But in this pool of people we also see some people who leave us shaking our heads. They haven't done their due diligence, they haven't shadowed DOs, they merely vomit up what they've read on Wikipedia, and are relatively clueless. They're the type of people who, around now, say to themselves "I didn't get into Yale...I'd better start applying to DO schools!"

So, OP, don't be one of those people. Apply 6/1/16, and apply broadly and smartly.

As to the bold, I wouldn't be too harsh. It's really competitive out there!
