hello medical students. I am a DO to Be and was wondering how many years follow medical school? I understand that there are 4 years of school (two basic science/two clinical). Then one year of internship..but how many years of residency for
1. family practice
2. internal medicine
3. pediatrics
4. geriatric
etc, etc

Thanks

For peds, IM, and FP most programs are 3 yrs (incl internship). There may
be some programs that are 4 yrs total. For geriatrics you'd probably do
the basic IM residency then a geriatric fellowship. However, I'm not sure
about this so ask around. Other areas (GI, cardio, oncology, etc.) usually
require a basic IM residency then a 2-3 yr fellowship (if we're talking non-
invasive). Surgical specialties are a whole other story and different
fields have different requirements.
