Just curious how many interviews it usually takes to have a decent chance at matching or getting a non-match offer.

International dental degree if it matters but also answer just for normal usa students if no experience with international.

Thanks.

I once found something published by PASS/Match that stated the statistical likelihood of matching if you ranked x # of programs... I have been looking for it because I’m curious about the same thing as you (except for pedo instead of GPRs), but I haven’t been able to locate it again. IIRC interviewing at and ranking 6 or 7 programs lead to a really high probability of matching. Being that I can’t find the document anymore, though, maybe I misinterpreted it when I saw it a while ago and it wasn’t saying that at all.

I found some statistics on the MATCH site and I plugged it in to excel to get some percentages.

This is only for MATCH and ONLY for people who successfully matched. If anyone actually knows numbers overall and not just for successful matches that'd be great.

Number of ranks on left and on right the percentage of people who have matched at that rank or before e.g. for aegd 68% ranked at their first spot, 89% ranked at either 1st or 2nd. I

AEGD
1 - 68%
2 - 89%
3 - 96%
4 - 99%
5 - 99.6%
6+ - 100%

PEDO
1 - 60%
2 - 82%
3 - 91%
4 - 95%
5 - 98%
6+ - 100%

So I guess on average this means if you are meant to get a spot somewhere, you don't need tons of interviews.

edit: also found this:
Match rate by interview offers received:
0 to 4 ..........65.30%
5 to 8 ..........91%
9 to 12 ........94.30%
13 to 16 ......98.40%
17+ ............100%

unfortunately only grouped, not separated (0 to 4 is quite a big difference lol)
