How many are married?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate marriage advice in a pre-dental forum:barf:

I notice a lot of the couples here are very young. Is there a possibility that couples especially very young ones could end up divorcing due to dental school?:scared:

Well, I plan on divorcing during dental school - anyone else?

Just kidding.

hahahah newmexdent

Blankguy, about 40% of couples who are married before they are 21-22 actually will get divoced within the next 8 years (according to divorce statistics). Maybe they are not ready for a serious relationship or they just didnt find their "real" partner 😛

See I raised a real concern. :scared:
There two things that can happen one is divorce or the relationship could get stronger as a result of struggling through dental school. Good luck and hope everybody ends up with the latter result. 👍

I think the national divorce rate is close to 40% also, not just for 21-22 year olds.

Married when I was 20 on 2002. I have two kids and I am going to start D-School this summer.

On a side note, I have a lecherous recruiter 😀 who's constantly inserting comments like "the women are hot in dental school" The guy is practically a granddad and he is making such comments of women in their 20s :scared:
Make sure you keep your wives away from this guy.:meanie:

Okay so anybody here looking to upgrade to Wife 2.0 after dental school?:meanie:

😱 .. terrible.

Being married sounds like a load off the shoulder for guys. I mean, wife cooks, cleans, pops out babies then keeps said baby alive. (kidding, please don't stone me :scared:)

I have no intention of marrying until after d school, at the very least. Then depending on how many more hoops I want to jump through, I may consider gracing a man's life with with my hand in marriage. Maybe. :d

But it sounds so nice when I read about your married stories and especially about the babies. Man, babies are so cute.

All kidding aside. I think the people who have it especially tough are people who are not married but are in a relationship while at dental school. Ideally you either want to be married or an unattached single while in school. I have tremendous respect for people who have to go through school with kids. 👍

I want to get married after my first year of dental school that way I would have time to adjust into the system and take things one step at a time. plus maybe il find the right person in d-school ,, that would make things easier and fun i think🙂

marriage is cool

Jem,

You have no clue how well us married guys have it. Wife is my personal alarm clock. Gets me a cold energy drink to wake up after a power nap. Gives me feet massages while studying. Serves my meals on fine china. Warms my towel before I get out of the shower. I snap my finger and she magically appears. If only all women were like this. maybe the world would be a better place it they were.

Just kidding.😛

hahahaha...I thought you were being serious at first. What is crazy about all of that is not too long ago, what you said would not have sounded so ridiculous, it was the norm. Times sure have changed though. For us future female dentists, we could have stay-at-home husbands...😱 😀

That is definitely more of a 😱 than a 😀 ....

I would totally dangle that over my husbands head if that's all he did. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but in my mind, guys ought to be the breadwinner. Me working just ups the bar for how much bread they need to be winning. :meanie:

Seriously, that would be really hard to live with. There wouldn't be much to talk about and I don't want to miss out on all the first-stuff, first walk, first sound, first poop. Plus, I plan on doing the baby rearing. But, that's how I do.

My cat does that for me and I don't have to listen to it nag. Fine china and all. 😀 Now if I can only train it to eat it's own poop then I would be in trouble-free land.

edit: disclaimer. joke isn't real. i dont' even have a cat. if i did, i would only try to make it eat its own poop once. if it does, great. if it didn't, i wouldn't push it.

coprophagy is bad, m'kay ?

But seriously, marriage isn't so bad. Depending on your relationship with your partner and how many epics you've been through together, dental school rigors won't be as large a source of friction. Also, helps (a ton) to have a non-emo partner.

If you actually spent time reading this thread, it is not about advice. We are telling people how to keep a happy marriage during d-school. quote]

Care to explain? 😕

seriously, why do you care? If you don't like what is being said in a thread, then move on. You can't hack up what someone said and then ask them to explain it.

For you guys that are married and live together, props to you guys.
I'm married, and my wife sleeps at her dorm during weekdays because her apartment is much closer than my house is. So, during the weekdays that I really want her to make me breakfest and wake me up (cuz i hate the sound of the alarm clock) shes not there, and during the weekends that I want to sleep until 1pm, she wakes me up at 9am saying that she wants to go out to the mall.

Haha, nice. I've been married for awhile and have a 3-year old. I think the change of pace a family offers will be a definite benefit to my sanity during dental school. Actually, they're away for the next month (visiting relatives abroad), and all the partying/movies/video games I'm doing now is wearing me out! Can't wait for them to get back.

Wait, so are you telling me that you don't like what I am saying in this thread? So should you move on as well?

I miss typed what I was saying. I meant to say we AREN'T telling people how to keep........

Sorry for the confusion. Basically, I was trying to say that the OP just wanted an idea of who was married. Some of us just expanded upon our experience, but weren't trying to give marriage advice here. Just our experience and how it has helped us actually being married while in school. So, if someone doesn't like that, go to the next thread.

Thank you for the explanation.

Nope, I sure am not. You can say whatever you want. I was just confused as to why you care enough to post negative comments on a thread, that's all.

Hey everyone, I've been married for almost 6 years now! We have 2 kids (both boys) one is 4 and the other is 2! I don't know how or where i would be without my wife! She is AMAZING!!!

I agree with you that married life is great! I wish you lots of luck balancing dental school and young kids! 😀

I'm married and both myself and my wife will be attending dental school in the fall. it'll be great to have her to go through everything with.

Where are you attending D-School? Are you both at the same school?

So I find all of this married talk a little different from what I'm used to in undergrad. Obviously, all yall are more mature and stuff than us bachelors...but I have a feeling I'm gonna have a little trouble adjusting and talking to people with real lives and families. It ought to be a good learning experience.

Why settle down so soon? The time to marry is AFTER you have completed dental school and working and making 250K a year... thats when all the chicas flock to you.

I take it that all the married guys now are on their trial run. :meanie: The real wife comes after dental school.*runs for cover*:boom:

My wife already knows that she only has 5 1/2 years left with me. Once she turns 36, I am trading her in for two 18 year old nymphos. 😀 That will give me a couple years after graduation to get the skills honed before I need to worry about fending for myself.

You mean Fook Yu and Fook Mi.
