Hey guys. I just done my PS for the Pharmcas; however, there is a problem, I only have around 2500 characters......

Is it gonna be the problem? I am pretty sure I covered everything, but man~ it still 2000 characters short..... Do I need BS some more? How many characters do yall PS have?

Thanks!

I had about 3200 characters. It's definitely more about substance than length.

I think I may be around 14 characters short of the limit. Like someone else said though, definitely about quality, not quantity!

It all depends on what you have to say. Since I'm a nontraditional student (I'm approaching 40), I had a lot of stuff to get into my PS, so I maxed it out (I think I finished with 4490 characters or something like that).

If you've said everything you want to say, then it doesn't help to try to BS your way to 4500 characters. But you might just want to do another brainstorm to see if you left anything out. GL!

Geez, you guys have a lot of characters. Then again, I wrote mine, read it over once, and submitted it. No real proofreading.

I'm still writing mine. It's a good 3500 characters of substance. The last 1000 will be fluff.

What did you guys do for indentations? Are you suppose to skip a line between paragraphs?

Right now mine's sitting at only 2200, but I still gotta tweak it a bit before I finally submit my app.

3500 chars of substanse >> 3500 chars of substance + 1000 chars of fluff...

That's what I plan on doing. I'm sure the adcoms wouldn't feel like reading something that looks like a single mountain of text.

4-5 different people?

About 3-4 people. I think I actually had it proofread like 6 times so I could get a lot of different opinions.

You won't be able to indent. I think I just hit the enter key to put spaces between paragraphs. Each space only counted as 1 character.

currently 4,476/4500 characters. just finished with my 7th draft and almost finished polishing.

I had started with around 3,600 characters I think? I lacked specificity in the beginning and my ideas were a little vague.

I mean you could put like 5 spaces.

I had 4469/4500 characters. It took me 8 drafts/revisions and several people reading it and making suggestions. Your family can be good for input. My sister helped me remember things from when I was young that I'd forgotten, and she was able to point out strengths I have that I hadn't thought of. I am also a non-traditional student (almost 28) and I had a lot I wanted to say...don't know if I would've had so much to write when I was 21...a short personal statement isn't bad, as long as you answer all the questions and say all you feel you need to say.

One of John Nash's professors wrote a recommendation letter for him that had only five words in it: " This man is a genius."
So it's not how many words, it's how much you say with those. Be clear, concise and genuine,- and you'll do great.

Hmm. :lame: It strips out all leading spaces. However, it does work for subsequent paragraphs though that will look weird.
I noticed that too...

o and btw mine is 4477. At first it was a lot lower but then a prof who proofread mine told me to explain this and do that and that got me to the limit.
