How many credit hours do you take a semester?

I'm taking 16 credit hours this semester (hoping to get on the Dean's list) and will take 15 in the spring.

How many credit hours do you guys take?

Also, will D school like students with higher credit hours per semester .... ?

On average I take about 15 credits a semester. Next semester I'll take about 17 credits.

Technically we have 25 credit hours this semester but in comparison to undergrad with the amount of work that we must do it should be closer to 30 credit hours.

i took 12-14 units in under grad but also worked 40-45 hrs/week.

I am going for an average of about 15 a semester. Sometimes more sometimes less for individual semesters though.

Dan, agreed.

We have 36 credit hours this semester and 35 next semester, for a grand total of 71 credit hours for the first YEAR alone.

Simply amazing.

Sure, if you can swing it. Afterall, a 4.0 with 18 hours looks better than a 4.0 with 12 hours (assuming the classes are relatively equal subject matters).

Look a the post right above this one where I relate the credit hours I have this year in dental school.

Taking more hours will get you used to juggling a greater variety of things, as well as using your time wisely (one of the greatest dental school secrets).

I probaby averaged 16. If a person is focused and not working full time there is no reason they cant take 17-18 and still do very well. Above that some can handle it easily, and some crash and burn.

All I have to say is that if you fall behind, you will have one hell of a time catching up...if you can. I already know of two people that probably won't be D2's 😱

How many courses at dental school do you guys take simultaneously?

I constantly hear of modules lasting 2 to 6 weeks but how many modules at the same time do you take?

We're typically enrolled in 3-5 modules concurrently, which rotate independently of each other every several weeks. For example, we started the semester with gross anatomy, molecular cell bio, tooth morph, and dental materials. Thanks to this gradual change in coursework, by the end of the semester we were taking histology, SABS (systems approach to biomedical sciences), occlusion, and dental materials (the only semester-long course this term). For us, modules typically run 2-8 weeks, depending on how much material needs covered. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but it's a pretty inexact science 😀

Our modules this first semester are all one week long (with two exceptions). Our curriculum is unique in that we only have ONE module at any given time.

You won't find this at any other school.

We are doing about 4-5 classes at a time here with 1-2 of these being a basic science. I think we have a total of 13 classes this term

My school is more tradtional. We take all of our classes at the same time and they all last for the entire semester.

If you're curious, here is the breakdown for this semsester:
nutriton (3cr), Microbiology (4cr), Fixed Partial Denture - Crown (2cr), Complete Denture (3cr), Ortho (2cr), Pathology (4cr), Oral Diagnosis (2cr), Biologic basis to soft tissue disease (2cr), advanced perio instrumentation (1cr), Conservative Esthetic Tx - Composite (2cr).

Next semester is:
Microbiology 2 (3cr), Fixed Partial Dent - bridge (2cr), Removable Partial Denture (3cr), Endodontics (3cr), Ortho 2 (2cr), Oral Pathology (4cr), Treatment Planning (2cr), Pediatric Dentsitry (1cr), Periodontal Therapy (1cr), Prevention of Oral Disease (2cr).

That should be a fun semseter!
