Im at "work" but I think its XP pro.
Klutzy, no one can attest to your stats. Hope for the best!

There is a little grade inflation, but as a whole I highly doubt that people inflate their GPA's. The DAT scores are usually the ones that are faked. In case you are accusing me I will prove to you that I didnt inflate anything.

haha nice Lotus Notes Elioit Lutz.
I like it too, although there are some features that i dont love.Lotus Notes is awesome, on it right now at work 🙂

no1 accused you, and dont flatter yourself by thinking they did. lol
also, you reported the higher of the two numbers, isn't that a way of inflating? a conservative approach would be to pick the lower of the two numbers because no1 really knows which number they look at.
W/e the case is, I highly doub that people inflate their GPA by a couple of points. Who cares A 3.7 or 3.8 are basically the same thing and both will get you accepted to dental school. The only place where there is maybe a little inflation is DAT scores and even there i dont really think it is very prevallent.
wow i so agree with you, however why is Howard and Meharry have over 50% "underrepresented minorities" with their average gpa 3.0 and DAT 17/16?? And I see "minority" students getting interviews with waaaay lower stats and similar ECs. Is that fair? Who is a minority anymore? America has elected a "minority" president, didnt we? I'm starting to feel like a minority living here in SF!!!I think you are ******ed. No one is feeling sorry for any minority. There should be no such thing. So low stats should consider another career? Listen, stats may not necessarily mean you are going to be a good dentist. Undergrad GPA will differ from your Dental school GPA. You can be higher, lower. Please re-up this post if you're getting 3.93 in dental school and make me shut up. Don't tell people to consider another career, your attitude is garbage. Don't give them false hope either. What you should do is go spread the word to all the other hispanic/latinos not in school to go to school, so they can not be considered "minorities", instead of doing whatever else they are doing. Whatever it is, its not school. Maybe the person with the lower GPA and stats has a different motivation, to serve the underrepresented minorities. You used to be poor, how do I know your motivation isn't to be rich and you are choosing this career for those reasons? We don't need any more of those thx.

I would never let you work for me. Either you job is really chill, or you are getting paid to be on SDN. LOL. 😉 I am waiting for my 15 minute replications for my experiment, that's why I am on here haha.
^^Uh, why do you care so much if ppl are accusing you of inflating scores?
hey man,
If that was your first time taking the DAT, take it again. If not, you should, like everyone else says, go to a postbac or masters. I think you can get in the low or even mid-20s easily if you put time into it. Unlike most exams, this test is a joke compared to the MCAT, which I never took.

This is so absurrd its funny. Look at predents. There are no applicants that have a GPA below 2.9 and a DAT 20 or below that have gotten an interview. As a fact, there are many more applicants than spots and even the "lower tier schools" can be picky and take applicants with better grades. Unfortuantely a 2.8 GPA is probably in the 30%ile of applicants and probably in the 5%ile of acceptances. Now when you couple that with a 19 AA which is not great either I dont see much hope. Call me a jerk or whaever you want but I am being realistic. The scores have gotten much better in the past couple of years and there are tice as many applicants as 2-3 years ago. The competition is more fierce and you need above average stats to get in.

How do you conclude that if you never took it.
Why are you getting so offended? I wasn't accusing any specific person of inflating their grades/dat score...but I do see a large number of people with really high scores on the dat.
Woops, my bad. The "why are you getting so offended?" thing was what I agreed with in your post. Contach and northside seemed pretty offended.
Yeah I can see that you're being realistic and all but you can't go on saying 'ZERO' chance and stuff either right. I guess you just fit the whole 4.0, student trying to offer 'words of wisdom'.
While GPA obviously has to be a main factor, a lot of people here seem to overlook the competitiveness of the undergraduate school. Dental schools can't keep track of every single school in the country and analyze them for grade inflation. For this reason, some schools such as UoP and Columbia favor DAT over GPA. Before people nitpick between choosing which GPA from AADSAS, I think they should take a sec and check schools. SDN clearly represents a more competitive group of applicants than the total applicant pool, although I'm sure there are people here who have inflated their GPA.
Personally, I'm much more annoyed seeing 3.9+ applicants with DAT scores below 21, or 3.5+ applicants below 20 because I think this is a pretty obvious indication of class difficulty as an undergrad. Given, some people don't study for their DATs as much as others, but if you worked "hard" enough to get a 3.9+, you should have the work ethic to study for such an important test.
Hi I was just wondering how many people have got into dental school with a 2.80 GPA in Science and a 19 average in DAT? The reason I am asking is that I am in the same boat and wanted to know what percentage got in, for me to have a chance.
I know that there are other things that are consider too.

hey there mx6 power. I wouldn't rely on chance to get into dental school. With a 2.8, your not far off from 3.0. If you can take 2 semesters + 1 summer of all upper level science courses and achieve no less than a 78%, and retake your dat to 21+ you will be a much more competitive applicant and grab a few interviews. The interviews are all up to you. At this point, i would schedule the dat for 6 weeks away and study your balls off every day to get that 21. Thats the quickest way so far to improve your application.
klutzy dude yeah of course you wanna be realistic but at the same time still has a chance and not out of the game. if he has good ECs, personal statement, essays he has a shot i know people with low stats that have gotten in. maybe he/she went to a hard undergrad i'm curious where you went? the point is don't straight up tell them they have no shot even you know you've seen low statters get in. a post bac would be a great idea, but dont them they have 0 percent shot that's just messed up and dumb.
Nice, i really want to go on something like that like a mission trip or somethingalso I did a dental related trip to a foreign country... that actually cost me 500 bucks...
I have some experience with DS admissions. I got in, and now I'm on adcom. The bottom line is that your stats will not make you competitive. You must make yourself competitive in other ways. You should have an amazing personal statement. You should have a huge number of observation hours. You need an extremely strong understanding of the profession and your reasons for wanting to enter it.

IMO a 2.8 with a 19 is possible..but has a very small chance, but possible.
Also I think predents.com generally represents the more bright/smarter applicants. Doesn't NYU accept like 500 people? There's bound to be a handful of 2.8s and 19s

haha ughh a lot of people use predents, but imsure a lot of people don't use it. i know a grip of people who just look at it, dont make profiles b/c they're lazy, etc. It's like SDN there are a lot of people on it, but there are only some who decide to register, post, etc.
Just stop klutzy, that was a terrible argument. I'm not pissed off at you, but just think a little more when you type.
Im not sure why I am taking so much heat here, sure id love to be nice and say you have a great shot expect a bunch of interviews, but in reality thats not the case. I have a friend who has a 3.8 GPA and a 19 and so far he has received 3 interviews out of 12 schools and he has excellent EC/ personal Statement. In a perfect world everyone that wanted to be a dentist would get the chance to go to school and prove that they are qualified, however there is a DAT in place and stupid as it, together with GPA, is used to determine whether you will be able to handle dental school. IMO its is more of a hope/dream than a realistic shot to get accepted with a 2.8/19. You may disagree, idk on what basis or what factual backing if any, but that is my "opinion."
K nerds. They look at the Science GPA then consider overall GPA. That is the what they do and the logical thing to do because you can have someone in MUSIC with a 4.0 but the bare minimum science courses. How can you compare a 4.0 student in music to a 4.0 student in engineering? They use SCIENCE first, then they look OVERALL, thats how majority of the schools do it.
In Klutzy's case, he has over 4.0 in both. They are not gonna use his 4.09 and compare to someone else's 4.07 and be like hmmm, the 4.09 is higher so we'll take him.
Plus contach, his sci gpa and regular gpa differ by 0.05...., this argument is almost as pathetic as comparing penis sizes.
This is the take home message. Those with a gpa of greater than 3.9 go in the same pile as those in 4.0's and greater. Once you get into that range 3.9 and 4.0 become indifferent.
