Obviously, to answer the question, you have had to apply before. Or you received an ii yesterday. 🙂

I am curious. I think for many schools half the iis have already gone out. I guess gor a few schools, very few iis have been issued.

Granted, I applied 2 years ago, but I believe 9 out of my 10 II's came after oct 1. The one that came before was like Sept 30. My last II came in February. I was complete at most schools in mid-Sept. It depends on the school and their individual timeline, but the cycle is far from over for those schools that interview into the winter and spring.

4/5 came after October 1st. I was complete sept 5 at most schools during the previous cycle.

Applying early is really more of an imperative now than it is an advantage. I interviewed at one of the 10,000+ application schools a few weeks ago and they said during the intro. powerpoint that there was a 6% increase in apps from the past year, and they had already received over 10,000 apps (of an anticipated 11.5K or so).

Seems to be that way for a lot of people. Sometimes it's tough to pry yourself away from the SDN-ers that were complete VERY early. Reading the school specific section after being complete later (say, mid September) just leads to feelings of anxiety over all of the IIs you see.

:luck:

I submitted on day one last cycle and got all of my secondaries done within two weeks (or at least almost all of them). I like to think I was a pretty competitive applicant and I did end up having a great cycle, but by no means were all or most of my II's before Oct 1. Get off SDN and relax.

This is the most sane and logical response on this whole website right now.

No. It is not based on a gut feeling, but my comments are based on a very small sample size. Very incomplete information. That is why I asked. If I had more complete information, I wouldn't have asked. 😉
I don't know.

I enjoy reading about other people's experiences. I appreciate the posts.

Well, this thread is different. I got the idea that interview invites after October ==> interviewing in November/December ==> interviewing for the waitlist.

I've heard that only interviews in the new year (January 1st+) is for waitlist spots..

I got interviews late August/early September that have all been scheduled for November. I think it just depends on how many people per day the school is willing to interview. Hofstra and USC I know for sure are scheduling people for December and January after inviting them in August and September. I would say any invite before New Years is definitely not just solely for the wait list.

If you look at the school specific threads you'll notice most schools are still on August apps and filling November interview dates. If this were true, then only people complete in July would ever get accepted without being on the waitlist.

It is misleading to make blanket statements like that. As with everything, it depends on the school.

I attended an interview in February and got accepted in March, never saw the waitlist.

this thread is making me very hopeful. and the homer/sandwich reference makes me very happy.

I got like 3 or 4 interviews in October when I applied. Those were the last ones I received, meaning all my interviews invites were August to October. Then it was dead silent for the rest of the cycle.

5/6 of my interviews were before October 1st. My last II came on October 3rd. I don't know how many I would have gotten after that, since I withdrew from the rest of my schools when I was confident that I was going to get accepted somewhere.

All 5 of my interview invites were sent out before October 1st, I did not receive any after. That being said, I was complete very early at all schools (late July), and I do know plenty of people that kept getting interviews through January/February.

for the people that you knew who got interviews up to early next year, were they complete the same time as you ? (Late july?)

I had a friend who was complete in August, but didn't interview until March or late February. Outright acceptance.

I know of at least one school that continues to outright accept one or two interviewees all the way through March. At that point, they see how their class looks and send more acceptances if needed and make out the waitlist.

That I am not as sure on. I know at least one person who was complete the same week as me and then proceeded to get a December interview.

5 (+/-2) out of my ~22 II's came after October 1st.

There's not much to conclude from this data, except the fact that II's come out throughout the cycle...which you already knew.

Let's not forget that this cycle is moving slower than usual. Also this date is meaningless for people like me who were completed in late August/ early September.

And you are not interviewing for waitlist yet. If you get invited after January 1st then maybe, depending on the school.

Side note, based on SDN posts it looks like UCLA hasn't even started sending out IIs.

A little under half after (~10 after). Didn't go to most of them after hearing back from a bunch early tho.

This is school specific and by no means should be taken at all generally. My final interview invitation was in early April, and the interview was in mid-April. I was accepted (not off the waitlist) in early May.

All but one of my interview invitations came after October 1.

22! How many schools did you apply to? 😱

My top choice interviewed me in I think January. Got an acceptance without ever being waitlisted.

3/3 of my IIs came after October 1. I was accepted for admission at each of the three. If you get an interview, you do have a shot at getting accepted. None of these interviews were as stressful as I thought they would be. If you haven't heard yet about IIs, start prepping an update letter with substantial updates and send that out in early November if you still haven't heard. Remember - schools have to process thousands of apps so not hearing anything does not necessarily reflect how they think of you - they may not have gotten to your file yet!
