Hello everyone,

Long time reader and first time poster. I've just gotten 2 interviews at KCOM and Touro-NV. I was wondering how many schools should one plan on interviewing with. I want to have enough interviews where I can get a few acceptances to choose from, but I don't want to break the bank. I am expecting interviews from most of the DO schools and can't decide if I should spend the $$ to go interviews from schools that are on the bottom of my list. Any advise about my situation and what's a good # of interviews to go to.

My Stats: GPA: 3.38 overall, 3.3 Sci, 3.5 non-sci
MCAT: 9V, 12PS, 9 BS (30 total)

-2.5 years of lab/research exp
-Currently working as CNA
- <1hr of shadowing DO
- Solid Rec letters and usual extracirricular

Top Choices:

1. UW-Madison (allo, state school)
2. Medical College of Wisconsin( allo, state school)
3. PCOM-PA
4. DMU
5. Drexel (allo)

2nd Tier Choices:

1. LECOM-erie ( within my price range )
2. ATSU-KCOM
3. NJCOM

The rest:

1. NYCOM
2. UNECOM
3. NOVA
4. Touro-NV
5. OSUCOM
6. WVCOM ( the steep OOS tuition puts it at the bottom.)

I like how you put within your price range like you're buying a car. But seriously my husband has gone on two interviews and has two more scheduled and wants that to be it.

I would not turn down any interviews until you have an acceptance. Once you have an acceptance from a school you would like to attend, then decide which of your other interviews to cancel. Good luck to you. :luck:

I don't plan on turning any interviews down before i get accepted, cuz thats just foolish. But should i push back interview dates for schools that I'm not too interested in just so I can interview at schools that I like first? And would interviewing at a school later in the application cycle hurt my chances. Or maybe I just need someone to tell to quit being a penny pincher and just take the hit.

Honestly, go to as many as you can. You may be completely surprised at you top choices going to the bottom and vice versa after being there.

I say no. There is no guarantee that you will get an interview from any of your top choices. and the longer you put interviews off the less are your chances. Ive put two of mine off because im leaving the country until that time and there were no dates open before I left. so for me, my situation is different. if you can attend, i say go.

As interviews came in for me I would schedule them, regardless of where that school fell in my pre-interview list of choices. Some schools surprised me when I visited them (KCOM, for example) and I finished with a different list of favorite schools then when I started.

I personally went to five interviews total. After the fifth I cancelled the rest, partly because I was so happy with the schools I had seen and partly because I had to put down a deposit before it was too late.

Agreed. Go to as many interviews as you can before you find the school that fits you. And you have an acceptance in hand. DCOM was at the bottom of my list for a number of reasons until I interviewed there and it quickly shot to number 1. I was über impressed.

Plus you never know where or when you will get an acceptance...

i have similar stats and only applied to 3 DO schools.
scheduled interview with all three of them, if i were you i wouldn't turn down any interview inv. until i am sure that i get into a school i like

i am interviewing at western on 12-20, touro CA on 1-22, touro NV on 1-29

After the open house at DCOM yesterday, I highly doubt I'll go to anymore interviews. It just fits everything I was looking for in a school. Plus the camaraderie that I feel between the students is amazing and I cant wait to become an MS-I up there.

That said, go to as many as you need to before you find somewhere you are comfortable and feel good about. If you have a gut feeling about a school, go with it, you are probably right.
