I really really think things will pick up late next week and the next. I mean judging by the interview invite thread...it seems like 2/3 of programs havent even started to offer yet.

I put 3, but technically it's 2. I'm a prelim intern and one is at my current program, which I rotated at earlier this year. The other one is an interview for both EM & EM/IM so I guess you could call it 3 since it's 3 rankable options.

I'm on the high end of the poll, but most of these are at less well known programs in mediocre locations. Only have 2 interviews at places that I think even have a chance at being in the top half of my ROL so far.

I'm a DO applicant with pretty competitive scores and applied to 44 places. I have 7 invites so far, but mostly to smaller programs, and one that I rotated at. I don't have a home program.

I have none! OMG !

Wait... I'm having that dream again where I'm back in medical school... Phew.

Good luck to all. Its turbo-early. Don't stress. As an aside, I regularly have dreams where I have to take STEP-1/2 again. Freaking hate those. I called my dad the other day (a dentist of 30+ years) and told him about my dream. His tone went from "normal" to "pensive" really quickly. There was about five seconds of dead silence on the phone before he said:

"Da'...da'.... Those NEVER go away... I'm sixty, and I still have dreams about having to take the boards over."

Hope this gave you all a laugh.

This poll is about as helpful as the "What's your USMLE score?" poll. There's no way that 93% of EM applicants have interviews at this point, and no way that the average applicant has 5 interviews or so. Other than self selection, it's probably biased by the inclusion of DO programs which send out invitations earlier.

I have 1, my home institution hasn't started offering interviews yet. My only interview offer is from my away rotation, and it was an informal invite.

What does that mean? Like, you will be offered an interview in the near future, but that was just a word-of-mouth thing?

The solid question is whether you will be ranked (meaning, if it is "informal", when does it become, or what part, formal?).

I think you may be in the wrong forum....

I was. Getting used to the new app. Lol

haha. I thought FSU meant that it was b/c he only had one interview. lol. too funny. gotta love SDN.

6 here if you don't count my home institution. I feel fortunate to have heard from some good east coast programs at this point. Hoping to get some west coast love soon.

No, I'm thankfully sitting on 9, but I, going to cancel 1.

This exactly. I know I should feel lucky to have a decent number of interviews so far, but I am SO nervous to hear from the programs that I care most about.

Exact same here. Already planning on canceling 1 or 2 and very anxious to hear from atleast 4 or 5 that I really want to go to.

Yea, I'm cancelling one soon. They offered very limited dates and I didn't feel good asking them for other dates, knowing I would likely cancel later if/when I get more invites. I had a list of about 10 programs at which I was hoping to get an invite; thankfully I've gotten about half of them so far. A little nervous about 2 of them that have already given out invites (per the invite thread), although trying to remind myself that it's still super early and SDN only promotes neurotic behavior, lol.

Good luck, everybody!

From speaking to a number of programs at ACEP, it sounds like many (most?) haven't started sending invites but that this next week should be a very fruitful week.
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

The PD and APD told all of us during a lecture that they invite everyone who rotates with them for an interview. It'll be formal when I have an interview invite in my mailbox... which I assume will happen after they start sending out invitations.

zero officially. Two informal (from home and away).

MD applicant, strong numbers (or so I thought), applied to 40ish programs. Here is hoping for a better week!

This week or next week? Seems unlikely we'd hear much this week with all the PD's at ACEP. Would love to be wrong though.

BTW, don't let this thread stress you out folks. It doesn't differentiate between MD and DO interviews, and I believe DO invites have been going out for awhile now. It also doesn't control for self selection and/or outright lying. If you are to believe SDN, the average EM applicant has a Step One score of 297 and two Nobel prizes. (Though I personally have a Step One score of Infinity plus three, 8 Nobel prizes, and honored every rotation, even the electives I didn't take).

Are you the SDN poster who found flaws with Einstein's theory of relativity?

Just to add fuel to the prognostication fire, I spoke with two separate PDs last week who said that interviews would be picking up this coming week precisely because of ACEP. Because of travel and relief from clinical duties, people will have more time was their logic. Take it for the unsubstantiated rumor it is!

Is 8 MD invites too many at this point in time? Hmm.. I lack a nobel prize or a 297... One of my buddies has 10 atm.

It's probably true that you're a really strong applicant though, as is your friend. Most of us who fall in the middle will not be so lucky. I think its great that you have 8 interviews so early in the game... if i had that many I'd probs be ecstatic lol.

Either way, I got a couple invites today, which helped a lot to reduce the sting of the rejection I got yesterday lol.

Heard today that the word on the CORD listserv is that many programs aren't even looking at applications until Oct 15th!

This thread is amazing.

Got a flurry of interviews right away, felt super confident, even started cancelling some.
Last week has been nothing but crickets, no rejections, nothing, suddenly feel like ITT Tech is a reach.
Oh, to be a neurotic med student during interviews/match.
Gotta love it.

Best of luck to all of you, hopefully our paths cross a few times soon.

For the people who don't have many interviews yet, are all your LOR/SLORs in? And similarly, for those that got interview offers right away, did you have the LORs in right away?

I think this is a great question. I currently have 3 interviews with 2 community EM LORs. Still waiting on both of my SLORs to come in.

9 interviews with 2 out of my 3 letters submitted. They are both SLORs.

See that's why I asked... it seems to be that people that have at least 2 EM letters have been offered more interviews than those who do not.

I have 1 EM LOR (not SLOR) and have 4. I'm waiting on another one and a SLOR, so we'll have to see what happens especially after ACEP

2 slors + chair letter in

9. My application is complete. Applied to 30 programs.

2 interviews, no rejections, 2/3 slors in, applied to 30

Applied to 41, 4 interviews, 0 rejections, 1 SLOR in/3, step 2 ck complete & resulted

I don't know if it is coincidence or not but application was completed last week and I have since gotten 3 interviews.

12 interviews (30 applied, in hindsight overkill) 3 SLORS in since mid september, 1 SLOR pending.

11 interviews so far (applied to 38). Decided to EM late so only 1 SLOR in (SLOR went in 10/3/12).

So is it safe to say that most ppl have started receiving interviews at this point? Also in general, do programs send out all their interview invites at once? Or is it truly rolling where a a few go out every week or every 2 weeks or so?

Because looking in the interview thread it seems like there are some programs which have given out like all their slots already.

Just wondering...

Rolling is what I have seen.

Anyone have an idea on the new magic number of interviews to shoot for these days? DO student btw so gonna do a few more over the magic number.
My advisor recommended 12. Guess you could shoot for 12-15?

Definitely a few that just sent out a **** ton...see duke and christiana...they probably only send invites if ppl cancel at this pt

Yup. Some mass invite and some do it on a rolling basis.
