How many letters of rec?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know most schools only require the committee letter, but how many have you guys sent?

When I applied last year, I sent most schools 4 letters. Some received fewer, and a couple received more than that, depending on their requirements.

My school doesn't have a premed committee, so I took my Career Center's advice and grouped all the letters into a packet letter and had the CC attach a cover letter and send them. I had 8 letters in my file, sent 6 letters .. I know it's on the upper end, but every school that stated upper limits said the additional letter or two was fine and would be forwarded to the adcom (mainly because, due to the packet letter organization, I couldn't edit the # of letters)

i had 9 but obviously i didn't send all 9 to every school.

keep in mind some schools require a letter from:

science prof
non-science prof
p.i.
volunteer supervisor
physician u shadowed

p.i.? why would you need a letter from a private investigator?

why would you ever get a rec from a shadowing experience. Uhhh although Johnny didn't know anything he asked a lot of questions and was an exceptional walker.

lol a physician you shadowed is better than a peer recommendation like UND. I love my friends I do but it still makes me nervous every time I think about my future hanging in their letter writing ability.

As in the University of North Dakota? Actually two of the letters I have are from UND profs. I would apply there, but I really don't want to spend more time in North Dakota, plus I'm not a resident.
